I think it's getting ridiculous that only 1 month into the season all these places have been closed down for different periods of time. While I was there I have to say we didn't see much hassle from the bars or restaurants mainly the damn hairdressers and the folk wanting you to do their trips.

I agree Andrea the resturants were pretty tame this year, it was mainly the hairdressers and tour places midering you, but if you say that you live there they dont bother you again

Sue I'll need to remember to use that in September cheers

Then again they know the rules about hassle, I don't mind it TBH (well a little bit) but many newcomers have been put off in the past.

Hello,
Got back on Saturday morning from
Icmeler and the Council are cracking down on the bars, restaurants and the hassle. There was a big meeting on Wednesday where they laid out their plans, which included, no hassle from anywhere (except the jewellers, of course!), only one board outside each premise and a shut down within a few days for the least hassle. I was told that you can be shut for 3 or 10 days for the first time, 2nd time is 2 weeks and then shut for the season if they do it again. The Police visited all the bars and restaurants on Thursday and spoke to the owners and made it quite clear that they would not be standing for anything!
When I left on Friday, there was supposed to be 33 places shutting in Icmeler for different periods and 50 plus in Marmaris. Hopefully this will stop the hassle and we'll get back to picking where we want to eat and drink etc without pressure.

Florida was also closed down on Friday. But i also heard that the council want them all to increase prices. Why dont they look at the irsh bar and stop that noise.

I don't know about putting up prices. I do agree mainly with the clamp down on hassle. I have lost count of the people who when I say I go to Turkey for my holidays reply with "oh you get a lot of hassle there don't you" so it does put a lot of people off going and I have read on this and other forums that price increases are not making it a cheap option any more. Some people will opt for the shorter flght and Turkey will loose some of its tourism if there not careful. Di.

I take these closures aint nothing to do with punters being thin on the ground and hence trade is slow.

It was like that last year when i was there, the hassle from the hairdressers was doing my nut in after about 3 days

Pity the police don't shut them down too. Will have to try that this year say i live there lol

They just want to earn a living just be polite and say no
02 Jun 2008 11:32
Yup, there were alot of places closed last week...and as said the main places you get hassle from are the tour operators...and the restaurants on side streets (ie the Geordie).
At the same time, there are a few places just opened/just about to open...

Never expeienced it myself, but reading on here about the guy from Barons Bar, I would be surprised if they stay open too long
The worst hassle I find is from the hairdresses and the jewellers. As I am slightly folically challenged, the hairdressers hassle is a real pain

Worst hassle I got last year was from Majestic Boys, ended up crossing on the other side of the road some nights to avoid him.

When we stayed at Avlu 1 a couple of years the simpsons place used to be a nightmare I used to cross over the road to avoid him.
Is Barons on the corner near the dry part of the canal cos he was a pest last year as well.
Maybe the council wants the business rates to go up, i assume they dont get a share of the profits. The owners cant afford to put prices up because as someone said, we would all walk away and vote with our feet or eat in, or go AI or half / full board.
