Stopped smoking

18 Apr 2008 14:43

This is day 11 of non smoking. Today I have been tempted to reach for a cigarette, but so far I have NOT smoked.

Anyone else given up, or intending to give up?

I am wondering what I will feel like in Icmeler with all the smoke around :? So if you see anyone sitting screaming with no nails, you will know its me.

Well potentially good news for you Mary.

On arrival in Turkey at Easter I was told that the government were intending to carry out the no smoking ban like the UK and that it would be frowned upon to smoke in public places.

The reality of this though is that very few and I mean very few places are trialling - god only knows how this ban will work in Turkey!!!!

Thanks Flora.

I cant ever see the Turks following a no smoking ban....they smoke anywhere!

You will notice the difference at the airport and on the plane not craving a fag for 4/5 hours.

Well done Leesam and Jayne, thats brilliant giving it up so long.

Today I just kept busy, washing....if my hands are wet, it seems to stop me thinking about them.

I used to hate that craving once you get into departures, and then no smoking.

Dont worry, already thinking of the goodies I can buy instead of 1000 fags at Cardiff Airport

Well done with the no smoking I hope you manage to keep it up. I gave up 4 years ago past January and have never looked back. Although there are still the odd few occasions when I feel the craving coming back, but its only very momentary. Good luck

This topic has started something
I gave up about 6 years ago and still sometimes (very rare) get the urge, especially whilst having a beer ! Wife doesn't help though, puffing away on her 20 a day ! Keep at it, it will get easier :D

Well done Mary, keep up the good work. My other half (Greg) gives up every year just after New Year and OMG by the end of January I'm practically stuffing fags in his face cos he get so moody and bad tempered I can't stand it. But I've been thinking recently maybe his IS bad tempered and moody even with the fags!!

I'm  to say I have tried to give up the dreaded weed a few times but always start again. I know its a dirty habit but most of the time I enjoy a cigarette.
I must admit sometimes I feel a little  when I light up as us smokers feel like lepers these days.
It is nice to go to Icmeler and not feel ashamed to be smoking.
I glory in all the people that do manage to give up but I dont think I will ever become one of them :(

As I said I am a smoker but I am conscious of people that dont smoke and I have never smoked in a cafe or restaurant even before the no smoking ban came into force.

Anyway congrats to all of you who have given up :)

Well done Mary & everyone else who has given up!
My husband smoked from being about 11 yrs old and gave up 7yrs ago aged 54.
He says he doesn't even have cravings for a cig any more and says he will never smoke again, and I believe him.
It has never bothered him whilst we have been in Turkey at all.
Smoking is now so antisocial and smokers must feel like lepers sometimes, I do feel sorry for them.
I am a manager of a community centre and I have 80+ year old smokers who stand in the garden in all weathers just to have a smoke.
I have never been a smoker but can sympathise with those who are trying so hard to give up.
