First of all - I have to have a little shock moment and ask why so many of you defended the fact that someone was spat at? Surely ther is no excuse for such behaviour regradless of how the tourist behaved!

And now I'm off my soapbox - a little hint.

I avoid hassle by speaking Spanish in front of or two customer catchers - always seems to throw them as they believe they can't converse withme

Well I would just like to point out I wasn't defending anyone as such, I was just more refering to reviews I have read on some review sites. And some peoples complaints can sound quite petty.

However I am not saying being spat at is petty.

We were probably not as worldly wise as you Lynnjenny, we went to Lanzarote a few years ago and were nabbed by a time share tout. She said we had won a prize and to go to her office to collect it with her.
We were picked up in a car and treated like royalty, giving us drinks etc.
We must have sat there on the balcony of the office in blazing sunshine for 4 hrs at least, while they tried to tell us what a good investment it would be for us and our family.
We did not buckle under the pressure and we left with a bottle of cheap plonk and a suntan to die for
Going back to someones comment about condoning someone being spat at, I don't think anyone has done that ,we were just speaking of our own individual experiences.

I don’t think anyone was condoning being spat at. I just think we went a bit of topic from Skilly’s original post and went on to discuss hassle in general.

hmm I refrained from posting in here but hey ho.

I can fully believe that some one was spat at, we were actualy swore at last year for walking past a place each night and not going in, and the man was VERY rude.

Admin was in the resort at the time, as I moaned to him, as there was a flag hanging up saying recomended by ICR and I was going to go and rip it down.

The same thing happened to Ged and me last year. There was a new guy on the door of a bar we past who said good evening to us. The owner came running out saying to him dont bother with these scottish b**** they have been coming here for years and never come in here and now we never will

If you can beat them join them has alway been my motto

Serioulsy though never found it that difficult getting rid of drunks once the drinks finished they tend to leave. I find the most difficult people to get rid of are couples who have just met and are chatting each other up.

I found that the restaurants weren't a problem last year, but the hassle from the hairdressers and jewellers was twice as bad! and a bit rude. I wouldn't dream of being rude to any of the people trying to make a living there, but I was sorely 'tested' some days

Have to agree with you about the hassle from the hairdressers,the one along from the Blue Rainbow Hotel,Excellence i think it's called, they actually done my head in with the constant hassle, i did eventually start crossing over the road before i walked by.

Majority of restaurants i found not bad, most of the time they were happy with a no thanks

I couldnt agree more about the hairdresser close to the Blue Rainbow went in there last year just for a shave and he went to town in the end cost over 40 lira so i told him he was ripping me off and that i would let everyone here know about it(which i did)lol and he left me alone for the rest of the holiday

We stayed at the Blue Rainbow last year and my husband went in that hairdressers for a shave and also got his eyebrows threaded (not by choice I hasten to add) it was the funniest (and most skillful) thing I've seen in ages and it didn't cost him anything like 40 lira or he would have had a fit. They did try to get me to have a haircut while I was watching but I just said no and they left me alone. We walked past them every day that week and had no trouble,mind you my other half is an ex front row rugby player so maybe they thought they'd better not, he's like my bodyguard! Only 6 weeks now!!!
