A few have told me they earn about 6 pounds a day, which is miserly.
Although maybe they say that so you'll feel sorry for them and leave a big tip. One thing i always do when we have had good service is give the waiter the tip in his hand when he shakes your hand at the end, because i'm sure when the tip goes to the owner the waiter rarely sees it.

A lot also work on a comission base so the more people they can get to frequent their Bar the better the share out.
As Andy has pointed out basic wages are very low and tips are an important source of income.

Money

Hi

I'm going to Icmeler for the first time on 22 August I was just wondering about the money situation, should I take sterling travellers cheques are they easy to change? or should I take English notes. I will take some Turkish Lira with me to get started with. Any advice would be welcome

Hi Becci,
I take about £50 worth of ytl to get me started and the rest of my spends in £20 notes.
I also make sure I have a few £10 and £5 notes to spend at the market as this is still the best way to buy goods.
Your stirling can be exchanged at the corner shop or your favourite bar just enquire what exchange rate they will give you,you will not pay any commision.

Hi Gene

Thanks for the advice (once again) I glad the market takes english money as I can only haggle in english and I'd hate to send half an hour haggling only to find I'd obtained a 20p discount!!!!!

This year for the first time I didn't take travellers cheques, I took £200 in lira, english tenners and a debit and credit card (enquire about your bank and credit card charges first). It was sooo easy to obtain cash from the cash machines in the town centre, there are about 5 to choose from. The rate I got from the exchange bureau on the corner from £10 notes into turkish was better than in the UK.

Acertain member of staff from the Venice, not mentioning any names, told us LAST year, that he earned £600 per month,so I suppose that could be right,£1000
