Baggage Allowance

Baggage allowance as you all know on most airlines is 15kg,
By paying an extra supplement of £7.50 they will allow you another 5kg bringing your total to 20kg.
Also 5kg in your hand luggage.
I have just dropped my daughter off at the airport with overweight bags even after paying the supplement for an extra allowance.
Wait for it,
Daughters case weighed 29kg
Hand luggage 10kg.
Making her 14kg over the allowed limit.
I told her to be prepared to pay quite a lot for being above her allowance.
What do I know,
She went up to this very nice man on the desk,gave him a smile and engaged him in conversation,
she mentioned her case was overweight, so he smiled,tied on the labels,
gave her, her flight tickets and waved her through, no charge.
Now there was a lady on this next desk who my daughters says was weighing everything,cases and hand luggage and then informing the people of the relevant charges they had incurred.
Moral of this for me is,
When I check in,
I am going up to the man on the counter,smile at him,maybe just flutter those eyes of mine that seem to make the Turkish man go weak at the knees.
Engage him in a conversation, maybe about the weather and see how my luck fares.
I have not mentioned the airport or carrier for obviouse reasons.
No case is to be carried over 30kg in weight,this also may vary with different airlines.

It is a one way flight she is on.

The 30 kgs maximum most probably would be a set rule as it is a health and safety issue not the specific airlines so I don't think any payment would be asked for, just to lighten your case somehow.

I also think sometimes it depends on how full the aircraft is on that day. Obviously if it's full there's not much room to let people off, where as if not so full they wont be as tough. Just a thought.

As I said there are different maximum allowances for different carriers:-
Easy Jet 32kg
British Airways 23kg
Thompsonfly 32kg
Thomas Cook 30 kg
I suppose there is a fixed maximum somewhere in the union rules
These are maximums and cases will not be carried if exceeding these weights.
I tried to explain that my daughter was 14kg over her allowence and wasnt charged.
No payment would be asked for if your case was over the maximum it wouldnt be put in the hold unless made lighter.

Maybe let Ann flutter her eyelashes Gene, he might get the wrong idea, then you'd be in trouble. Thanks for the info, we're going with British Midland so haven't got a clue what their baggage allowance is but hope it is 20kg

Just be glad you are not travelling from Heathrows terminal 5 you can't even get your baggage back.

I've just bought a new suitcase today, one of those hard cases, but not enough give in them to squeeze extra stuff in so taking it back. My other one will do for another year. I only got it last year.

Quick update on allowances, we have just recieved our tickets flying Onur Air and the allowance on the tickets is 20kg the same as last year, other half over the moon,she can take extra shoes.

Hi gez45....we to are flying on Onur on the 4th august from gatwick. First time we will have flown with Onur so we're not entireley sure what they are like, but having seen other posts they have there good points and bad points just like any airline. I guess we wont find out untill the day. (or night in our case)

Have you thought about heavy duty holdalls ours are kilos lighter than a case
They have wheels and extended handle Quite impessive

First choice hammered us last year, we were 7 kgs over and leaving mcr, so dumped bits put towels in handluggage very stressful start to hols.
Left all sorts like cheapo primark shoes and old T shirts that were used as general cover ups. The cleaners would have done well out of us last year.
Am going to weigh those suitcases before we go this year.

ooo just a quick note if anyone has anything to leave this year like towels and clothes etc, please hand them into the ICR office for there collection for the orphange.

Hi Gez45,
We flew with onou air twice last year and found them as good as anyother airline.
The inflight meal was quite basic, but it is Turkeys own airline.
The staff were ok, but one or two spoke very little english & we were only delayed one with them for 90 min's traveling out of Newcastle.
Don't know if it was just me but there seemed to be a little bit mor leg room too.
We are flying with them again this year and would not hesitate to use them again. 17 days to go.

•Mobility equipment and childrens’ pushchairs
Arrange your baggage allowance when you book your flight
•When you book a short haul flight (flight duration of less than 6 hours) add hold baggage to a maximum combined weight of 20kg
is the 20kg including the hand luggage travel agent said a very unconvincing i think so, im still not sure it states 20kg up the top but not sure if this is combine antone else bought a bundle from tcook and know the answer
