The cost of holidays to Turkey

Postby smc4761 » 23 Feb 2008 16:32

I have been keeping my eye on the cost of holidays to Turkey in particular Icmeler over the past few months and the prices seem very high. Even for 2 weeks in May self catering for 2 adultsI am looking at around £800 from Glasgow. Even the flight are very expensive typically around £250 each. Has the cost of holidays to Turkey increased this year last year I think I only paid around £550/ £600

If that the prices in May what is July Augsut going to be???

Where are you looking for the holidays? And what kind of accomodation?

Have you tried getting a price from ICR direct?

Hi
We have paid £200 for a flight with ******* from Manchester in August this year, and we book direct with the apartments, we are paying £30 a night for a room.
I have since been looking at them for my son to fly out to us but i can not get one any lower that £300 at the moment.
I got a flight for £60 last year out in August, but we did book that a year in advance, can't find one as cheap as that now.

Hi Stewart welcome back to the "Love In"

Prices this year are very high and I myself am putting it down to numerous things as 4 big travel companies merging and so chopping half of their holidays and flights.

You also have the price of fuel rocketting and then airport taxes, green taxes etc all contributing to this.

There were lots of cheap seats from Aegean last year and now they have come in line other companies which did not have ANY cheap seats.

The Lira is steadily getting better for visitors so that should then bring the beers and food in line with this.

Accommodation on OUR site is the same price as last year so no change there but if I could do something about the price of these flights then believe me I would.

I go out in May and will be paying the same price as everyone else for my flights.

As for your question about what the July/August prices going to be I am not sure if you mean that you haven't looked yet but from what I can see the flights are more expensive than last year but as I said before the price of our accommodations have not risen and in fact we have even dropped some prices for August

Hi Icmeler guys. We booked our flights early and paid £70pp for June :D return. We are going S/C, and with there being 4 adults in a very large room, we are paying £30per night. Works out at £7-50 each, cant be bad.Our 6th time and every year we seem to make it cheaper by DIY. Happy hols. Jan xxxxxxxx

Hiya ,

We booked in October with ICR to travel in May and saved £1000 on what we paid for the same sort of holiday last year with an online travel company. So I have no complaints

Even if the holiday prices have gone up, at the end you get what you pay for.

The Lira is still far better than the Euro, and how can you compare Icmeler with the likes of the Spanish costas :?

Its like comparing ice cold Efes with luke warm watered down San Miguelle!!

No contest

the cost of holidays to turkey

Totally agree with Jemini - if you keep an eye on the flights, and maybe be prepared to extend or reduce the time you book for, there are some bargins to be had.

We are paying just under £7 a night each for B & B this year, and have decided to have 16 days :D

Roll on September

I have not booked yet hopefully we can go in May though my better half is waiting to go into hospital for an operation so we might not be able to get away until September. Like rami said its a combination of lots of things particularly with regards to flights. Accomodation is excellent value.

One of my concerns is that people will see that it can be expensive to get there and with the recent increases in food drink prices perhaps fewer people will go. I have been to Turkey for the past 10 years and also to the costas as well as Canaries and the prices and standard of service/friendlyness is very comparable

I have thought about AI but there is nothing better than either BB or self catering, choosing your restaurant for the night enjoying a wide and varied menu. depending on when the better half goes into hospital I may be lucky and get a last minute deal in May

i have been monitoring prices now since november to book for our normal end of june 2 weeks,BUT due to the over priced flight prices i am affraid that its a no go for us at the moment.
Flight prices are 50% up on the same booking time as last year and they are not budgeing.
I am afraid that although John/Rami say the prices for accomodation have not changed,WITHOUT the flight you can not start to book the room.
On top of that the airlines are now RIPPING us off with baggage allowance charges,(SEE OTHER TOPIC ABOUT BAGGAGE)

We have been to Icmeler now for 5 years ,twice a year and Marmaris,Hisaronu and Gumbet on the odd occasions over recent years,so its not that we dont want to go AND we could afford to go ,JUST dont like been RIPPED off for the flights.
On top of that there is the massive currency excahnge rate difference from last years.
Overall allthough we are all Turkey/Icmeler lovers i wonder how many have said HANG ON !!! this is to much.
I am sorry to say but i feel that Turkey will be in for a very lean Summer this year,(and we love it and dont want to be seen as critical) .
This is just my point of view.

Tour operators V D.I.Y

Postby geovil » 25 Feb 2008 15:33

Got to admit with the flight prices as they are and all the add ons it is not that competitive to do DIY against going with the tour operators, but what you have got to take into consideration is the service you get with the likes of ICR.

just booked flights for my parents with fly thomas cook, last week they were £235 for the first two weeks in june from manchester, but at the weekend they dropped the price to £155.
Just looked again and they are about £165, which is a good price considering the accommodation is so cheap.

Got to agree wholeheartedly with Jackonews. It is just really expensive for flights with all the add ons and people are looking at their holiday budget and starting to vote with their feet. I am worried that this could have an impact on holidays to Turkey as I ahve found the past 2 years in Imeler to be fairly quiet. Last year in my self catering apartment we were the only guests for the the first week, the 3rd week in May
I know that ICR are not ripping us off, accomodation and transfers are well priced they are stuck like the rest of us with high flight prices.
Currency rates are also an issue, 2years ago it was almost 3 lira, last year 2.5 and so far this year typically around 2.20. I agree the Euro is not great either but it can be better value to get there to Costas Greec etc.

On top of that I have seen numerous holidays to Sri Lanka,Cuba etc for about £750 each all inclusive
I genueinly hope the prices settle down as i have grown very fond of Turkey Icmeler in particular and really want to go back again this year

Hi Stewart

Like Admin says, their accom prices haven't changed although pity for us they are at the mercy of the airlines etc for flight prices (tho they do come in maybe slightly cheaper than we can find), so .....................

have you thought maybe of booking a cheap deal with one of the less favourable operators ( no need to mention any names), then ditching their accom & transfers in favour of the far superior service and products on ICR???

Bet you'd still save ££££s

i generally book flight only as ive got an apartment there. As i fly from belfast there is only one airport so our prices have definitely rocketed compared to last year. I spoke to our local travel agent and he said bookings to turkey are definitely down and people preferring to fly to mexico or thailand. my friends booked pinewood apartments for 2 weeks same time as i go and their holiday including flights cost 279, my flight only cost 259. i even checked sites to fly indirect via england but airlines have put charges on their luggage which doesnt help.
i also have friends who say they prefer to fly to spain beause it has shorter transfer times and it is year round destination where as here in N ireland we still dont have winter flights to dalaman.
over all Belfast international appears to be the most expensive airport to fly out of and i think tour operaters take advantage because they know we dont have any more airports to fly from

i have to agree with jackonews. i think the season will be bad again because of the prices not only with flights but also because of resort prices particularly in maramris and icmeler area

Second holiday

Postby geovil » 27 Feb 2008 12:25

Looking to book a 2nd Holiday for September in Spain,Greece etc but the prices are very high,so had a look at Turkey and they are the cheapest,
possibly because the prices in the bars and shops in Turkey are so dear,
the tour operators are trying to get bums on seats to fill planes hence the low prices.
