Mobile phone sim cards

Postby deanmorfitt » 03 Aug 2007 12:46

Hi Guys
We are going in a big group over to Icmeler and are in a couple of different apartments. :)
The question i have is how easy is it to get a Pay as you go Turkish sim card. We can then all just put the sims in our phones and get in touch with each other quite easily.
If anyone has doen this before or can think of another way with any costs it would be appreciated
What we dont want to do is be ringing each other UK numbers which would i suppose cost a fortune.

hi - to use a turkish sim in your english phone you will also need to have you phone unblocked.

it all depends on who your provider is and what deal you have with them. i'm on contract with O2 and yes phone calls are expensive however any texts i send to english mobiles still come out of my inclusive ones so technically - free!! i would call and ask cos you might find that you can all text each other for free as part of your calling plan anyway (if you are on contract). therefore no need to go with the turkish sim card.

i don't know what the chances are of getting a cheap phone!

mobile phones are really big over there and very expensive for them to buy - that's why they all get english phones unblocked - cos they cheaper to buy over here.

i would think about getting your phone unblocked in that case so it can take a turkish sim card. should cost about £10.

Hi, I bought a turkish handset including a sim pack in march in Izmir from the turkcell shop, the turkish goverment have made it very difficult to use a turkish sim card in your english mobile now, they block it if you put a turkish sim in an english phone now, I think it is because a lot of turks were getting cheaper and used mobiles from tourist friends and not buying the turkish ones, so they make it difficult now, you can use a turk sim in your own phone, but you have to produce receipts of purchase and fill in forms at customs etc., I got a new Nokia 1112, its a great little phone! plus sim pack with free credit to put on to start me off and it cost 90 lira for the lot ( I think its about £35, not sure), so I just take that with me now, its worth it for me because I go a few times a year, also you have to top it up every 3 months, so over the winter, if you go every year, you can leave with a friend there and they can keep it topped up until you go again, anyway, hope you get it sorted and have a great hol! I go 14th Sept again....cant wait, Regards from Eve :D

Hi
Have you thought of 2way radio, they have upto 3/6km range and are reasonably priced £40 for a 3 radio set, so long as you are all in icmeler shouldn`t have a problem,

Think you'll get the best info - and most current - from ICR staff who are in resort. I know there's an internet cafe just by the crossroads - going away from the beach - that sell phones, SIM cards etc. With such a lot of you, it might be that unblockin several phones + new SIM's would be more expensive than using the ones you have.

You could try sending texts that say "meet at ???? at 3pm" that wouldn't require a reply. Make sure everyone's got their watches and phones set to the same time though.
