Baron is on main road (Dolmus route) on the corner before you get to Dermicioglu aparts and wonderboys etc

So thats the name of the restaurant - when we stayed at Dermicioglu apts and had to pass it they were really bad for the hassling we were getting really peeved with them, they were about the worst re hassling! They need to be shown they can't get away with it!

Came back from third trip to Icmeler two days ago and I totally disagree with the hassle law. As others have said it is part of the charm and a way of getting to know people, now they have to act as if they don't care if you go in or not. 9 bars/restaurants were closed on the last few days of our hol and spoilt some of our plans ie to watch the Welsh rugby game in a Welsh bar (yes I know we lost!!). I hope business at the Artemis picks up as they are a good bunch even though the dancing leaves a bit to be desired. Walked past the Baron just to see what he was like and didn't find him too bad. Can't wait for next May when we'll be back.

Personally,its not the restaurants that i find the hassling annoying...its the Hairdressers!
You go in for a simple wash and blow..and then they're asking,you want some colour,hair cut,nails/feet done,eyebrows...Noooo surely if you want this done you'll ask for it!

Or even walking past them-saying you want some highlights,haha thinking i've only just had them done-how rude! hehe

I'm glad i've been going a while and go to the same Hairdressers,dont ask me anything haha i'm just in and out!

Have to admit I find the hairdressers really annoying and also the shops when you want to browse, I stopped going the underground market because of this. Does this 3 day rule apply to them as well as the eateries?

No it doesn't, I think the close-down rule would be better utilised on the shops and Especially the Hairdressers .
Closing the bars and restaurants not only hits the owners and employees but its a real shame if your favourite bar/ restaurant is closed for what could be half of your Holiday. I would have thought a straight fine would be better suited to deal with this problem. Personally I don't have to much of an issue with the Hassle, I find it quite easy to have a laugh and a joke with them. I can see however that some people can find it annoying.

I agree Colette, they should treat them all the same. Talking about hassle from hairdressers, a few have shouted to me your hair is too dark I will make it lighter. When i say actually my hair is the same colour as yours they say but you don't have dark skin You can't win.

I thought the hassle law was across the board and not just for eateries and bars and think this is very unfair can someone clarify this

Think I've posted this twice by mistake but the Welsh bar is on the road to the beach, left hand side just before the Etoile Hotel. Look out for the large Welsh flag. It's run by Jackie who is being kept company by Christine her friend, and they give you a really warm welcome. All the staff are great too. When you go say hello from Lesley & Steve for me. Hopefully we'll see them next year. Ta!!

I think most people would agree,(what ever their employment) that if you had to make the majority of your yearly income in a 6/7 month period you would do everything you could to make as much as you could. So give these lads a break and take the hassle for what it is, a small inconvenience not a life threatening situation,and enjoy your holiday.

I think most people would agree that the hassle is "mostly" light hearted and that it doesn't cause too much of a problem or spoil the holiday much at all, however it can become a bit tedious when every other building you walk past someone tries to "influence" your choice of where to eat or what to buy..
What about our coastal resorts? They only have the summer months to really make a living, admittedley they can expect a slight income in winter but we have no hassle and yet they manage (just maybe).
The hassle takes the edge off of an evening stroll.
Anyway it obviously doesn't bother me that much because I'm going back again

about 5 years ago we went to kussadasi in a 5 star hotel on bed &breakfast it was mid july and very hot when we arrived the rep who dropped us of said "oh by the way you cant bring any food or drink in the hotel bought from outside you have to buy from the hotel"
well i wont be told what to do on my holiday and the prices in the hotel were really expensive so we bought a large beach bag and every night we bought our supplys water ect and went in through the gate that was manned by security guards .
after 3/4days of buying our water from a particular shop we crossed over the road and bought it from another shop (its best to spread your money around so all the shop keepers benefit)
well the first shop man came out and was really nasty to us demanding we buy from him when my husband explained that we had spent a lot of money in his shop already and we wouldnt be bullied he started ranting at us and swearing and pointing his fingers at us like he had a gun i was really frightend my husband by now lost it and nearly punched him he went very quiet and back in his shop.
when we arrived at the hotel the security guard came over and asked to search our bag he informed us he had a phone call from a local shopkeeper that we were sneaking water in well i wont repeat on here what my husband said but suffice to say he didnt bother us again
we complained to themanager and holiday company but nothing was ever done about it also in kussadasi when the cruise ships dock the bars and shops put there prices up that day thay think there are rich passengers sorry for my long winded tale but the hassle we had there was really bad and spoilt our holiday icmeler is quite laid back but we also went to olu deniz and there was hardly any hassle.

Hi Cassie , I can relate to your comments about hassle especially in Kusadassi .Six years ago whilst on a 14 day cruise we docked in Kusadassi for the day. In the morning we visited nearby Ephasus which was excellent, in the afternoon we strolled around the center of Kusadassi, and still to this day I cannot believe the hassle and very abusive language from the shop staff & we actually felt threatened. If that had been our first visit to Turkey we would have never visited again, but like you we have been to Olu Deniz & for the last 5 years going to Icmeler ( Heaven on Earth ) & I agree that the level of hassle is minimal & at times light hearted.
People have mentioned the guy outside the Baron restaurant, imagine a resort with a lot of people like him. I think that regulars to Icmeler should be grateful for small mercies. But dont tell everybody otherwise Icmeler will be FULL.

Just returned this weekend, found less hassle in marmaris than in Icmeler, a lot of cafes and bars are handing out cards and leaflets rather than hassling you to check their menu, found less hassle outide shops and bazaars, we were able to look in windows without being pestered too much, but once you pass thro the doorway your like a fly in a spiders web, still you usually get an iced tea out of them, in one shop he sent his lad to buy us a can of beer and bottle of water, I felt really guilty when we walked out without buying anything.

Never found it has a bad effect on our holiday. However, a guy selling "Fashion" jeans (bearing in mind I'm nearly 60) made a point of taking the "mickey" , in Turkish, to his other shopholders when we didn't go into his shop. Everybody ( apart from us) had a laugh. Needless to say, we didn't use any of those shops. We were suprised, though, at the bad manners. Always expected better from the Turkish. Still, they'd had a bad year last year.

Friends of mine just got back last night from Icmeler. They said the hassle was so bad they would only ever consider going for 1 week again and stay A1. He felt threatened by market traders and they got ripped of at one of the restaurants which happens to be one of my favourites... 18 lira for 2 slices of toast each, butter and jam and 2 fresh orange juices!!. they said yes most of the turks were friendly enough but there were a few who did make things difficul and for a first trip to turkey this would put several of going back

I dont like being hassled but am always polite and say no thank you but one afternoon last week I got really annoyed with a jeweller just below pleasures night club I was walking along with my 4 year old grandson and he stopped me to ask '1 question' I stopped he wanted to know why I didnt have any jewellery on I said it was daytime and I only wear my wedding ring, in the evenings I would wear a necklace perhaps, I dont like loads of gold. He said I should go into his shop and look at rings again I was polite and said no I had to go as my grandson had walked on he was very insistant that I have a look at one thing in his shop and didnt seem concerned that Charlie had walked on to a group of men sitting playing backgammon outside another shop. I shouted to Charlie to come back but of course he was more interested in what they were doing I said I would look at 1 thing in his shop to get him to leave me alone but as soon as I went through the door a chair was pulled out for me and the other guy told to make me apple tea he wanted me to sit down I got angry then and told him again that I had a child with me and walked from the shop. I know that in Turkey Charlie would have been fine with the men outside the other shop but its worrying especially after the little girl in Portugal is so recent. After that each time I went down there I crossed over.
