Cheaper Eater !

29 Apr 2007 10:21

Warning, Tight Git moment ahead :D

As we know, bartering is the order of the day when shopping at the shops and markets.
I was wondering though, with so many restaurants plying for trade using varying degrees of hassle factor, has anyone actually bartered for a meal outside a restaurant before entering ? and with what success.

We have always just paid the menu prices and never given it a thought but thinking, it just seems strange that we bargain hard for everything else but not for food. :D

Any thoughts

Cheers

Now it's not because I am Scottish! however, some restaurants offer the kids a free meal if you go in and some dont. We usually go to our favourite ones all the time regardless of this offer, but last year at The Dreamsboys they were asking us to go in, and to be honest we were going there anyway, but I decided to see what would happen if I asked what we would get free, and the guy said, well what do you want, and I said the kids meals for free  .... and thats exactly what we got!

I never did it again though, I was just seeing if I could do it or not, I am hopeless at the markets too.

When I first started going to Turkey it was to Marmaris and we always bartered for meals. that was back in 2000 but then after that we didnt seem to be able to do this anymore

The first day of our holiday to marmaris 2 years ago we were looking at the menu at the chinese opposite the kocer club and decided to take up the offer of the set meal, well we had our meal and when we received our bill we had been charged for all the items separately, hence we had quite a hefty bill, also the beers charged to us was7.5 lira for a large one.We didnt go back there and wont this year either

You're quite right Kitty, don't give them your custom again. I always check the bill because we've lost count the number of times bars and restaurants have tried to charge us for drinks we've not had.

There will be twelve of us going again this year and if it's like last year we don't even have to barter, they just offer you whatever you want to get you in.
