Has the lira peaked?

Postby Chris221273 » 28 Jan 2014 10:26

Have noticed today that the TL has dropped from 3.82 Saturday to 3.65 today.
Would the uk's growth have had something to so with this, and have we seen it at its peak?

Yesterday it actually hit 3.902 but soon started to slowly drop. Find it at 3.751 this morning.

It could also drop further as the Turkish Government are meeting tonight to try and do something to halt the Lira rate rising.

Seems the Lira has lost value against most currencies.

So if the bank raises its interest rates would that then see the lira drop back down towards the 2.5/2.8 sort of region?
It confuses me!!! :?

Its impossible to predict but that would be a heck of a drop.

Also theres no guarantee that action by the Turks would achieve any kind of reduction.

We'll just have to wait & see but then again I'm no financial expert :)

i changed some yesterday at Thomsons travel agents and got 3.58. Their rate was lower but they did a price match to a shop that i had seen further down the street (the money shop) offering that rate

Normally I've paid for my accommodation by now but holding back just in case the rate will jump in March. If I remember rightly the election is on 30th March so if the rate goes up I'm on a winner and if it doesn't I haven't lost out :)

Re: Lira Prediction for 2014

My opinion is: do not buy.

There are political reasons as to why Turkish lira lost value against all foreign currencies and based on our past experience this will continue until the presidential elections (not just till the municipal elections which will take place end of March)

So this being the situation, Central bank played its best card the other day by increasing the interest rates by 5% over night!!!. BUT Did help only a little so this shows the international demand and confidence in the current government and the Turkish economy has well deteriorated.

I would personally wait till after the first elections at the end of March before deciding to buy any TL. I dont want anyone to loose out so to be honest, this is the year you take your GBP with you and change it in the resort day by day as it seems as though, the rates will continue to be volatile even during the season...(again, due to presidential elections to take place in the summer)

Me also Geordie mafia, I got all my spends for this year whilst the rate was higher.
Just had a look at the rate and it is now 3.52. It's still quite a good rate, better than last year, but not as high as it was a few weeks ago...
Maybe it will rise again.

Missed the high rate due to still paying for the actual hol  ... But like people are saying it's still higher than September, so hopefully it'll rise again ...

Anyway, the higher the rate the more expensive things will be to compensate and the lower the rate is then prices should be slightly cheaper ... After all the Turks aren't daft, so we'll all end up either getting more lira but spend the same or get less lira and spend the same!

Agree???
