hi all,

after a few years of going AI, which we are this year ( although we don't spend anywhere near enough time in the hotel to "get more than our monies worth", has we have a lot of friends in paradise now after 14 visits) it got me thinking what I miss about SC. and one thing really springs to mind. and that was breakfast!!!!!

and why I here you ask. well before we travelled I used to get the local butcher to vaccum pack bacon for me, enough for one day in each pack. and probably enough for 7/8 so we could do the resort for breakfast as well. not sure if "smuggling" bacon into turkey was allowed but after working in the middle east for numerous years, it was a routine to wrap the packs in the wifes underwear, then if you get stopped they wont touch them ( religion).

but being an early riser I would have a walk early in the morning seeing icmeler in a different light than most people who would normally be sleeping a hangover off, I would then pop into the local supermarket, buy fresh bread and mushrooms, then head off back to the apartment, where the other half wouldn't have moved a muscle!!! but as soon as the bacon was frying her nose would soon be twitching. then we would sit on the balcony having breakfast drinking copious amounts of coffee and this set us up for the day.

I will have to try this again one day very soon

I cannot comment on AI costs verses SC, as i have never done AI. However there was an item in the Daily
Mirror this week, i think, giving a average breakdown of costs for and against and found it uneconomical. It stated could be
as much as £700. But after stopping at hotels in Icmeler since 1999, changing to SC in 2006, gave us so much flexibility
and of course supporting local bars / restaurants etc.
Then as you said any breakfast you want.

Since going A1, and also booking some of the higher rate A1 hotels, I haven't suffered any tummy bugs or associated dire rear !

That to me with IBS is a valuable bonus to my holiday experience - chance to just chill and enjoy 14 days without worry of chemists, doctors, pills , potions and days sat next to a loo in a bedroom.

That to us is priceless and worth every jot of extra payments.

We find that we have more time at night then to wander round and support places by our liquid consumption which is then not affected !

The little bar next to Love-boat also does great hot chocolates last thing at night - supplemented with a large brandy in each round, of course !

So, looking forward to hot chocolate from 20th September for 2 weeks !

when we have priced holidays (family of 5), all inclusive has always come in at over £1000 more than self catering! and there is no way that we spend £1000 just on food drink and ice cream, so for us self catering has slways been the cheapest option. Plus if we did pay for going all inclusive we wouldn't benefit from it anyway as we like to go out and about and not stay in the hotel for the whole hols, we enjoy trying different places to eat and explore so for us the best option is sc.

We went AI last October only because it was a late booking and it didnt work out much more than SC by the time you add the air con and safe onto the price.
We are out a few times as I didnt like the food that much in the hotel and proved my point when we went to an apartment this May.
It worked out cheaper than the AI when adding all the costs together for the apartment and for meals but the difference was the quality of food which was far superior in the local restaurants than the hotel.
This was a mid range hotel not one of the cheaper ones.
