I would imagine that if it does become compulsory, JT will be the first one to update us all.

It could possibly be made compulsory that you have to apply online for the visa. The majority of countries where a visa is required do have to be applied for online, so chances are Turkey will follow suit. This will then make things easier on arrival at the Turkish airports.

On 24 April 2013 the Turkish government formally launched a new online system for applying for and receiving visas for Turkey. In the first week of operation, more than 5,300 e-visas had been processed. According to the Turkish MFA, of the 30 million visitors to Turkey each year, 10 million received their visas on arrival. This is the target audience for the e-visa. By enabling people to apply for and receive their visa before they travel, visitors will no longer have to queue for a visa on arrival. The eligibility criteria for the visa have not changed, only the delivery method. One advantage for travellers is that they will know in advance if there is going to be a problem with their visa and have the opportunity to resolve this with the Turkish Embassy in London before travel.

We have been informed that this system will be made compulsory in 3-4 months and the visa-on-arrival service will be withdrawn. So please tell family, friends and other contacts to check before they travel and encourage them to use the new system if they can.

The practicalities of applying for and receiving the visa are fairly straightforward. The website is currently available in English and Turkish although other languages will follow. There is a contact form on the website and replies should be received within 24hrs. Fees are payable by Mastercard or Visa credit or debit cards. The visa cost remains the same (£10 for UK nationals) although credit card payments attract an additional charge. The Turkish government plans to introduce kiosks at airports, travel agents and airline offices where applications can be made. Travel Agents or other third parties can apply on an individual’s behalf as long as they have all the relevant information.

I've emailed the Turkish consulate to ask for clarification and will update if I get a reply. But looking at their website I would expect everyone needs to get used to the idea.

Has anyone used an e visa? I read that the sticker visa is being replaced with the e visa and I wondered if I need to get one now or if I can still pay my £10 as normal when I go in July.

Think you will still be able to buy visa at Dalaman in July, nothing has been made compulsory yet as far as I know but someone has said there were only two visa desks open last night when they landed at Dalaman.

Can anyone advise me - if I was to purchase an e-visa today but we're not travelling until July, is the e-visa valid from today's date or from the date we travel in July? i.e. am I better to wait to purchase it in July rather than now? Actually thinking about it it's bound to be valid from today, otherwise if I decided to slip in another wee holiday before July I would have to buy another visa. Thanks folks, think I've answered my own question!!

You may have answered it yourself, but not correctly I'm afraid . If you go to the website and start a new application (no need to pay anything) it asks for the date you arriving in Turkey and shows that your visa will be valid from that date for 6 months.
So, nothing stopping you from doing it now.

we purchased the E,VISA before travelling and whilst we did not have to que everyone caught us up while waiting for our luggage, and don't forget you need your visa at passport control when leaving Turkey.

Same here, although when I arrived, about 400,000 others did too, so passport control was swamped....and stuck waiting for the case for an hour ... Still, most important thing is being back in Icmeler...which is quieter than normal for this time of year, but more alarming.... CLOUDY! Lol

i think e-visa is a good thing, but at the same time a way of charging higher price, ie £10 at airport $20 e-visa plus charges = £14-91 per person family of 4 nearly £20 more than airport

I emailed the e-Visa Support Desk and they said they are only able to process payments in US Dollars. Hopefully they'll be able to process payments in other currencies in future.

That is what is says on the page ive got !

Not sure where you see that? I've just gone through it again and its USD $20?
