I've only ever felt ripped off once, and that was last year, when our usual beach boy had doubled the price of a sunbed/brolly. When we questioned it, we were told ' you've had it good for too long' - I was not impressed. Needless to say that with the changes on the beach this year, it was back to a sensible price.
As for restaurants and bars, I think they are having to cover increasing costs the same as everyone else.

Hi
Have to say i have never thought of icmeler as expensive the quality of food and drink far out weighs the cost
But a couple of things happened this year that got me thinking
I was in the supermarket where the elvis bar was with 17 ytl worth of goods when the german fella in front of me offered the woman at the till 1.5 ytl for a 2 ytl packet of sweets which she accepted then charged me 17.5 ytl so i paid for his discount
At the apartments on the night we arrived there was english and scottish
We were charged 28 ytl each for turkish night with minimal food and 2 of the 4 acts turning up
The following week with the apartments full of dutch and germans the turkish night was 23 ytl loads of food and not 4 but 5 acts turned up
Whats going on in icmeler??

I dont understand! why would you pay 17.5 lira when your goods were worth 17 lira? and did you not question the prices being cheaper for the other guests at the turkish night than you paid? I would have had to ask

We have never thought Icmeler to be expensive . As previous posters have said running costs obviously increase each year but surely that must be understandable to us Brits. Ok drinks went up during our recent visit but it hardly broke the bank. We have been going now for 14 years and i can assure you we don`t bring the same amount of spending money every year you have to make allowances.Needless to say we will be back next September and May if i have a profitable winters working.Jim

Hi Sueles 810
I didnt realise what had happened in the shop till i met up with my wife and son and told them about the man haggling over a 2 lira packet of sweets
We then worked out what i had bought and realised i wasnt going all the back to the shop for half a lira so just kept a close eye on things when we went in there again
We stayed at the melita and after our first couple of days a dutch travel company put bright yellow stickers up and there was a big arrival of dutch
The reps were there 2 or even 3 times a day so im wondering if the managment see this as an oppertunity to get into the scandanavian market and were making sure thier customers were happy
Thats what one of the bar lads told us and thats why they were charged less
If it works and the people of icmeler start making good money then all well and good but it seems to be at our cost
Cheers

At the end of the day people, if a place you regularly go is getting too expensive for what you can afford. Don't go anymore! We all love the place but if the sparkle is gradually fading for you, try somewhere else and renew the sparkle for your holidays. There is no point in spending two weeks of your time and hard earned to come home and feel you've been diddled. Puts a real dampener on your time there and this is not how you should feel. I personally do not feel that I am being taken for a ride, I am lucky enough to know a lot of people in Icmeler now and do get a personal service which I feel is well worth the money I pay. I have posted previously to say that in my most recent week, I only spent £350 which included a boat trip so I absolutely cannot say that its expensive in Icmeler. I will be going back 3, maybe 4 times next year and believe me, I am not made of money or earn a fortune but its what I love and I will carry on.
Rant over with, thanks for reading :D

Sorry to hear Icmeler doesn't hold the same sparkle for you and really hope that wherever you do go, you have a great time :D
I fully agree that everyone's entitled to their own views, and to express them on here. It wouldn't do if we all liked the same thing....
Forgive me if I've misunderstood, but I didn't read Sami's post as having a dig at anyone in particular and definitely not yours - have to say that generally I agree with her and with you

What i was meaning was Sami was absoloutly right saying that if your not happy with some where try some where different i totaly agree with that
All i meant was if people want to share thier experiences whether good or bad it makes for an intrestng forum and some open discusion

What you have said Sami about £350 for your last week including boat trip sounds right to me. We are a couple and budget £100 a day, yours was £50 a day so sounds right? We do spend the nights eating and drinking and have lunch and a few drinks in the day but don't skimp at night. For us we could not do it on much less than that. But its our holidays and we love Icmeler :D

As a family of 3, I budgeted for £150 a day, and over 10 days spent far less. I was amazed at getting a full English for a quid and a large or draught pint of Efes for 3.50TL in Buffalo, and the most I paid for a beer was 7 (apart from Dalaman but we wont go there!!)

We ate out every night, and the most I paid was 100TL, that was in Champagne, I had Sac Kavurma, nipper had steak (did a half portion for her) and the missus had fish and chips, we had couple of beers each, nipper had a coke, and we all had puddings. Couldnt do that in the UK for less than 40 quid!

All in all, I thought we got a decent deal everywhere we went, and I'm already looking for accomodation for next year! :D

This is in no way just Icmeler. Sorry to say we just spent a week in Altinkum (big mistake) and it was the same. Bar owners are paying more for the beer so they have to pass it on.
Glad to say that we have just booked our 2013 holiday ....... BACK TO ICMELER on June 26th 2013, never to stray again.

I spent £850 in total for 2 weeks 2adults
ate a 3 course meal every night with a few drinks
lunch 7 times
3 AI boat trips
2 taxi boat trips
7 ice creams each
1 trip to the beach sunbeds
15 dvds
a few small extra say 10 lira a day as mum was there and we didnt say the full price some days
shaves/haircut 3 times
new hairstyle, face threading 2 shampoos & blowdrys
supermarket shops , ate breakfast at apartment and some lunches, most a loaf cheese, big pkt crisps, cold meat eggs boat most days and sm bag of fruit
Normally i budget £50pppd & £100 extra just incase.... but only spent £30pppd WOW I stayed at a private rental which didnt have bar/cafe, so saved loads on drinks around the pool/snacks
Still great value for money the last eurozone hol I had Furtventura canary Islands 2/3 years ago and spent £700 on eating out eve meal only, & supermarket, no extras.......I was in Icmeler last may 2011 the price has increased slightly, but did find soft drinks lira cheaper,, beer/local drink 1 lira more, food many set meals 18 lira
came home monday nite tuesday morningt im on the web looking at flights more than happy with VALUE

Hi
I think certain things appear more expensive on the main strip
We always went in amigo's in the afternoon and for 5 large soft drinks we paid 30 lira not that i minded as we had a few free games of pool
We visited our friends who were stayind at rhodes apartments in the old village and the exact same 5 soft drinks at the pool bar came to 17 lira
If your doing that 4 or 5 times a day thats a massive difference
Just wondered why such a big difference i know some places are cheaper than others but thats a massive difference
Cheers

I stayed at Rhodes Apartments so I know what you mean about his prices. Now that I sit back and think about the amount of eating and drinking I did, I've got no idea how I managed to spend such little money but I suppose when its only me doing that eating and drinking its easier to budget.
I can only guess that prices are higher the nearer to town you get as the Old Village seem to be quite a bit less. I suppose its because they want to keep the custom up as much as possible being in the quieter part of Icmeler.

This year was our second to Turkey. The first we went to Marmaris but spent a lot of time in Icmeler and really saw how much cheaper it was than Marmaris.

Second trip this year was to Icmeler but we took two of our daughter's friends too. 3 16 year olds along with two boys aged 8 and 10. The girls all had their own money and did their own thing but we often found ourselves buying them drinks/lunch etc. We also had to sub them a bit towards the end of the holiday but what are mums for :?

We ate breakfast and/or lunch out every day, had beers and snacks around the pool, went on trips and had meals out every night with lots of wine and beer and soft drinks.

We spent £2200 which to me is an absolute bargain. We ate very well indeed, never set menus but always whatever we fancied. On our last night we had chateaubriand for 6 which only cost around £70 with enough left over to share with some friends we had met :D No way could you do this at home.

When we came back and met up with friends who had been to Portugal for their holidays they were shocked at how little we had spent...their meals were costing them £60 per PERSON.

I understand that some people who have been going to Turkey for years will be seeing a difference in prices but that is the same everywhere, without the benefit of great people, scenery and atmosphere.

I just love Icmeler and I really hope that doesn't change for us as we plan to try and book for a couple of weeks next October too :D

On reading this back I can see that I have gone on a bit so sorry, just using this as a chance to reminisce

You haven't gone on at all. Any chance of reminiscing and I'm there with you. I've added a blog but with a twist, and this was my idea of looking back over my time there in Icmeler. Have a look. Going back to the actual thread, I think I might try and take more money with me next year as I saw so many good clothes that I would have liked to buy but couldn't. Plus I can then go on yet another boat trip as well, being 2 in a week rather than just the one. :D
