My off road experience

Postby Sue » 30 Sep 2012 19:09

Thought i would share my litle adventure with you from last week lol
We decided to hire a car to pay a visit to Dalyan, it was a brand new white car, we set off early and decided to take a turning where is said caunos, well what a journey, I do think we needed a jeep for this journey as we were in the middle of the mountains, we drove round for an hour and half and didn’t see anyone , when we did see someone we asked how to get to dalyan, she said it was 3km up the road, but no cars were allowed, only boats. Well when we arrived there we discovered we were on the wrong side of the lake. We were greeted by a very old lady who invited us into her café for Gozleme and coffee, then she said her daughter would take us over by rowing boat, it was a lovely trip over the lake and were able to take a closer look at the tombs. We walked round Dalyan for a while, then went back to our little rowing boat to be greeted by her granddaughter who rowed us back to the other side, once again we were greeted by the old lady who invited us into her café for more refreshment, when we left she gave us a pomegranate off her tree and thanked us for our custom, on our way again, through dirt tracks for an hour and half before we saw civilization, at the time we thought what a journey but we did see some beautiful scenery on our journey, the car was not white when we came back lol
opps dont know why i posted it twice

It wasn't by any chance the old lady from the restaurant called "The Other Side" was it Sue?
I kid you not and the old lady that rows back and forth from that restaurant to Dalyan looks about 90 ....and the oars look like lumps of 4 x 4!!

She must be made of strong stuff Sue
Every time we've been to Dalyan, she's there rowing - and dodging the boats on the river!!

That's fantastic Sue! I've stayed in Dalyan a few times and love it-totally different than Icmeler but just as good in its own way
We loved the daily boat ride down to the beach every day and never tired of the amazing views and wildlife on the way.

Restaurants we always go to are Gecit's for lovely homemade turkish food - with whatever veg they pull from the ground that morning!! La Vie, overlooking the river. And for live music, there's a lovely bar down by the rivertaxis just behind the mosque called the Jazz Bar and another one at the other end of Dalyan, again on the river bank called Sunray.

Don't mind visiting the market there either unlike Icmeler hahaha, there doesn't seem to be as much hassle on the one in Dalyan

What a great little story of your off road experience. Now this is what true Turkey is all about eh. I doubt anywhere else would you get such service. More than likely would be told, oh your on the wrong side, oh well, s**t happens!!
But not here, you get rowed across out of the kindness of their hearts, how cool. :D
