Just been looking at hols for friends for the end of this week, searched on Lowcost holidays for Olu Deniz for thursday flights with monarch from LGW, they wanted £518 each for flights, checked Monarch directly they priced the same flight as £90 each way, are lowcost holidays for real ,triple the real cost of the flight, a complete joke.I wont ever use them to search for anything again, a complete rip off, they were asking over £2000 for 3* hb , what a joke.dont they realise we are in a recession.just as well our friends have decided to wait till next yearRog.

Roger
I think you had better look again
There isnt a flight back from Turkey at the moment nor will there be for less than £400
You will see them out here for £90 but not back
No company has a flight back
There are lots of people stranded at the moment as they unwittingly bought one ways from UK to Turkey for as low as £30 but its even hard to find a flight back anywhere never mind one under £400

Absolutely,
JT - we tried to book flights independently and just couldn't do it for anything remotely reasonable. As you say, the flights going out can be very cheap indeed, but the return flights are extortionate, which is why we opted for a package deal this time, which we don't normally do.

Yes my mistake John, misread it, still £2000 for 3* hb at end of september aint low cost, just as well i booked my flights last year 2x returns 14 days £540 now that seems cheap now.Rog.

Someone suggested we try booking one way for next year, but having checked the return flight prices, we'll be giving that one a swerve!!!
I believe you could get some real bargains up to a couple of years ago doing this, but it seems to me that whatever we come up with to save ourselves a few hard earned £££££££s, the travel companies are cottoning on and boxing it off
We've not booked a package to Turkey for years, but it's looking like that's the way we'll have to go for next year if flight prices keep on rising

I think people are missing the point
thomas cook had lots and lots of flights every day going to Turkey and cheap too
They never had one flight going back into Manchester the whole of September and it wasn't last minute either as I was looking late July for people and there wasn't one
So they never actually banged the prices up, the flights were not there, planes were coming over half full also but we do not know why there were no flights going back
monarch did in my opinion jump onto this as they saw that thomas cook had no flights but they had lots so banged up the price to a very high one

Can't comment on who the return flights were with when I looked while in
Icmeler this summer
All I can say is that they all seemed to be for southern airports [we'd need Manc/Liverpool] and were all coming in at around £200 just for the return journey
Have to say I wouldn't risk it, and looks like we'll just have to accept that higher flight prices are here to stay and try our best to earn the extra we're going to have to fork out

Same here. We hadn't booked a package for years either and as we thought the flights wouldn't come down we booked a couple of months ago for next year. If we'd sat it out we could have still booked independently as our return flight from Bristol is now down to £204 each, with the return flight being £74.

I've been looking for flights from Stansted for next July, the only affordable ones I've found so far are through lowcost (offering a Thomas Cook flight) or Thomas Cook themselves and there's really only a couple of quid between the two.
Easyjet haven't released their late summer prices yet but I compared early to mid June prices today (EJ v TC), the same dates and more or less same times and TC were coming in much cheaper so I'm in a bit of a dither as to whether to wait for EJ price release or book with TC now while I know I can get the dates I want.
I have to say neither will be cheap though, so far I'm looking on almost £300 more than last year on flights alone.

Can't say that I've EVER found EJ or J2 to be any cheaper than anyone else - by the time you've added on hold luggage both ways, their prices seem to be comparable to the others - TC, M etc
Think we have to face it folks, the halcyon days are gone and we're going to have to stump up more - and heaven forbid even book packages
Just like it's now cheaper to book accom online [either through a package or separately] whereas 10 years ago you could save a bomb by booking directly with the owners and grabbing a cheap flight
