Catching the "Icmeler bug"

Postby pops » 10 May 2012 12:46

My sister-in-law and her partner came with us on holiday last year. They'd never been to Icmeler before, in fact, never been to Turkey. Off this weekend for their second "two weeks" and have already booked for two weeks in September.
There is definately something about this place.

Is there ONE particular thing that brings you back year after year?

I totally agree. We have certainly had the Icmeler bug, and have been visiting for 20 years. We made friends on our first visit, and have remained true friends ever since. They are now like our extended family. In fact we have just had a phone call from Turkey informing us that our friends father had passed away one hour ago. They mean so much to us as a family, and we love them so much. Can't wait to see them in ten weeks.

After a day trip to Bodrum from Kos many years ago to visit the market - I was so overwhelmed by the experience which was of a negative for me personally I vowed never to vist Turkey again - fullstop.

Then after 8 years of not going anywhere on holiday a friend mentioned she wanted to re-visit and did I want to go. I was in two minds about it, but decided what the hell. We booked up for two weeks to Icmeler in June 2010.

I went back again September 2010 and again September 2011 and I'm back again June 2012....

Why do I keep going back..... as someone said about "it feels like home" I feel so safe there, I love the beach, the mountains, the food, the people I meet. :-)

we first went to Turkey about 10 years ago, i was basicly forced to go, as i was adamant that i didnt want to go to Turkey, backward country, to much hassel, dirty, not nice people, and every other excuse i could think of (what did i know), first trip we went to Side down south, all i can say is stunning, every preconception i had was blown out of the window, apart from the hassel, which i must say is now alot better. Next trip was 2 weeks marmaris, with i must say many day trips to Icmeler beach and only one night in Icmeler, since then we have returned to Side and Kushadasi but Icmeler is our 2nd home with about 8 visits in 7 years, and were back end of sept, i totally agree with all the above, the people the food the scenery, well everythng, is just amazing, it is actually wrong to say its like home because if i was treated the same at home as i am in icmeler i would probably never leave England

Went on holiday to Icemeler for the first time in August 2010 with my husband and 3 children. I was a little apprehensive as I imagined it may be a bit dirty etc, (these silly unfounded ideas you can get into your head !). We went again August 2011, and July 19th this year we fly out for 3 weeks. We could never imagine going anywhere else now on holiday, and we never use to go to the same place twice. The kids love it (13, 11 & 9) never hear ("I'm bored") it is always a happy, relaxing, fun holiday for the whole family. The Turkish people, weather, scenery, feeling safe and the efes! make this such a fantastic place to be. Roll on July :D :D :D

Our 1st experience of Turkey was when I took a group of some 35 to Kusadasi more years ago that I care to remember! It was a good holiday and we enjoyed it so much, we decided to try other resorts ie Antalya, Altinkum and then Marmaris, which was very small way back then. We ventured into Icmeler and found a great place with very friendly people. We have returned twice a year for about 15 years now and we still enjoy it as much as the first time we took the Dolmis to it. People who haven't been to Turkey can't imagine the scenery and when shown pics they are always very surprised at what they see! Roll on 15th June when we make yet another visit :D :D

I have been to another part of Turkey which I did not enjoy and was reluctant to go to Icmeler, but wondered why my sister had been to just one place for the last 11 years. Now we can not stop going and I loved going to different countries. The main reason is the very friendly people and the fun my two daughters have as well as the lovely food and fantastic free entertainment. We go back in July for our 5th time!!! I can not wait to see our friends again.

Found Icmeler last year. Always wanted to holiday in different places couldn't understand why people would only want to go to one place. Just back from my second holiday in icmeler and already booking for October this year and June 2013. Simple reason as to why, the people. All the other stuff, beach bars scenery can be got in other places but icmeler people are different. They try to get you into their bars, shops etc but never get to hastleing or angry if you say no.
