We wanted somewhere out of the Euro to go and the rep suggested olu deniz, so went home, looked it up and were not very taken with it. So we decided on Icmeler after reading this forum.
Best move ever :-D

We went to Kusadasi in 1990 and didnt think much of it but really loved the hospitality of the people.
10 months later we went to Marmaris and stayed at the Emre hotel on the main road.
We had our breakfast outside on a small terrace and watched the Dolmus going past.
One day we hopped on it and ended up in Icmeler. It was only a small village then with most hotels being near the sea front.
We loved and went the next year and several years after.
We then had a break and went to long haul destinations but decided to go back in 2005.
I dont know why we didnt go every year like we do now. :)

We had been going to Kos in Greece for a few years then decided to try Turkey. Someone recommended Side so we had 2 weeks there, was a lovely place but not quite what we was looking for.The following year we tried Halkidiki in Greece but although was nice it was very quiet, too quiet for 2 teenagers. The following year we just didn't know what to do so i searched the internet and Icmeler was one place i had looked at and after finding this site and reading and looking at the photo's it convinced me this was somewhere we had to try. This was 4 years ago and we are still going back

Same as a few people on the forum, went to Marmaris on holiday a
few years back on holiday, got the taxi boat up to Icmeler for the day, ended
up going to Icmeler every 2nd night for a meal and a few drinks.
First went to Turkey, Kusadasi 17 years ago, iv'e been back there since
but Icmeler's just got that something, and no matter where you go, the people remember
you from year to year, real genuine people always glad to see you.

Friends suggested Turkey. Booked to go 19 years ago and never looked back, or been anywhere else since. Visited every year since and made good friends on our 1st visit and we have remained the best of friends since. They are now part of our family. It was the best thing that ever happened to us.

We were booked to go to Marmaris with friends but had to cancel because my husband was rushed into hospital, when he was well enough we got a late deal to Icmeler and we love it ,this will be our third year. we've never been anywhere twice let alone three times.

We had been doing the usual spots, Portugal, Minorca, Malta with friends. At the time we only had our Richard who is now 26 and our friends had only the one boy. The girls had been looking at the travel agents for a holiday and were persuaded by the girl in the shop to go to Icmeler in Turkey. It was CHEAP was the main reason, cause we had never heard of it before and this was in the summer of 1988.
We had the best holiday i have ever had, before and since, and have kept returning. I just love the place and the people. I read the post from helen2904 and we were the same. We met two other couples who were staying in the same hotel, and we are still in touch with both couples.
We stopped in the hotel Canaria at the top of the canal. I keep meaning to post some photos, they will be black and white though!!

Keith, I didn't realise you had been going for so long. There was me thinking we were experts when we met.

Anyway, we had very little money one year and went to the travel agent to book a cheap last minute break. After all of our usual places being to expensive (Greece, Tenerife etc) the travel agent suggested Marmaris. However, the first property suggested was on a hill, which was no good to us. She then suggested Icmeler due to it being very flat and that was it!

A Turkish friend in England said we had to visit his Brothers ( ) who worked in Icmeler, which we did and were completely spoiled by them during our holiday. Strangely, we are still good friends with the 2 in Icmeler (and a lot more) :D but lost touch with the one in England

Well, that was about 8 years ago, I think, though my brain may be getting a bit confused and foggy over time. :?

We first visited Turkey in August 2007 for a family holiday. We stayed at the Grand Cettia in Marmaris, very nice too. A local taxi driver, Mehmet, suggested a visit to Icmeler one day so we went. We fell in love with the place straight away and spent the rest of our holiday taxi-ing back and forth. Before we left to fly back home we took a full day out and wandered around the whole of Icmeler taking it all in. We knew that this was our special place.
My wife and I flew back out in February the following year to look for a place we could call our own.... and as we stood there at the back of the Old Village in a torrential downpour that made Niagara Falls look like a babbling brook, we found it. A beautiful three bedroomed apartment with stunning views, lovely gardens and a pool.
In less than four days we had haggled with the agents to get the price we wanted and furnished the entire place.
Now it's holidays in Paradise two or three times a year and hopefully, in the not too distant future, retirement to Paradise.
I found out later that the taxi driver, Mehmet, also lives in the village and we have been the very best of friends ever since.
Happy days... :D :D :D
