Postby gem2710 » 09 Apr 2012 14:35

do you book months in advance? or wait for a late deal?

im stuck on what to do, last time we booked a week before and got a great deal, but ive been looking around for september and the prices seem to be going up, just wondering wether to book now or wait?

any advice is appreciated, thank you :)

Its difficult to judge but I would say if you want to be in a particular hotel in September, it would be wise to book as we have found September is very popular. However, if you just want to wait until nearer the date and take pot luck, I am sure you will find something and you can always check out the offer with the forum members who always prove useful.

We're in the exact same boat gem :?

We will have the money to book the flight portion of our holiday this weekend, but we're undecided whether to go ahead and book them, or wait to see if the prices come down at all. I've noticed over the past 3-4 weeks that the prices have gone up by about £30pp which is pretty significant when the total flight price was only around £220pp.

Decisions, decisions :D

We always book as a package.
Last year we booked some 16 months in advance and got a great deal. This year we were unable to do that and "watched" the price for some months. When we returned from Icmeler in October, the package we wanted was at approx £490 each,.....too expensive for us. It fluctuated for a while and we booked in Feb at £430 each. It has risen and fallen ever since but has never reached the price that we booked at.
The identicle package is on the tour operators website this morning at £569. It has been as high as £596 and we have found that the price is changing almost daily.
I suggest finding what you want and if it reaches a price that you are happy with......then go for it.

It's really pot luck I think. My May flights have increased by 50% since I bought them in December last year, but the August ones have reduced a bit. Last year we didn't make September cause the prices were so high. As a rule I've always booked last minute, and from researching at the end of last year (I'd had an op so had some time on my hands!) it seems the best time to book a last minute is just over 2 weeks before the departure, as they start adding on TOD fees and compulsory inflight meals and stuff after that point.

I booked last August for June of this year and our flights and somewhere to stay worked out just over £500 per couple

I always book a package and always book well in advance. The prices do fluctuate but as said before on this thread keep an eye on the price and book when you think the price is right for yourself.
I have never found it cheaper to book all aspects of the holiday seperately.
