Fantastic Lira Rate!

Postby dotty » 20 Mar 2012 13:27

Have just been doing my usual check on the exchanges and TravelFX are offering 2.8150. How high is it going to go, do I order now or wait to see if it goes up higher.....no, I think I'll just order and take my chances.

Yeah, get it ordered. I've been ordering every month for the last 2 to get some behind me ready for June. Stops me spending my savings for holiday that way.

Same here Sami, we go in June and September. I've got good wee stash of lira, but the best rate I got was 2.75. Phoned my son and OH (who's at work) to tell them about this rate and ended up having to order for them too. I can't see the rate rising much more than this....but you never know. My theory is if I don't spend it all in June then I'll have some for September   Or I might just pay an extra visit to the jewellers in resort....

Is this company safe enough to use. Only asking as I have read on the site you can only use bank transfer to send your money. Does this not mean your money isn't safe if you use this method.

I'm not too sure Lynda, but I'd have thought if you pay through bank transfer your bank has proof of your payment, so you might be covered that way but maybe not get your money back straight away. When you look at this part of their website, its like they quite a substantial company http://travelfx.co.uk/aboutus.php

What the difference is between paying with a debit card and doing a bank transfer I'm not too sure.

Its like every online payment, but its a chance I'm willing to take in view of the fact they despatch same day if paid before noon, or next day if you pay after noon, so its a tight window for a company to go bust...but still not impossible.

I used a company online called ICE and then again I used Sainsburys, both with a credit & debit cards. Both lots of lira arrived the very next day. As for rate, I got 2.7 as well but am sure you would get better in resort, especially if you know the people say in a bar or restaurant as they will always try and get you a good rate. :D

I've checked travelfx and they have a minimum order of £300 and anything under £500 incurs a £5 surcharge.Thomas cook has a rate of 2.7702 and the post office has 2.7729.I went into my local thomsons shop a couple of weeks ago because neither thomas cook or the post office had any Lira left. When I got home and checked my receipt, the rate they gave me was only 2.45.

Most online currency exchanges have a minimum order of £500 to qualify for free delivery/handling, so probably only worthwhile of ordering over £500. I ordered at the 2.8150 rate yesterday and have had confirmation that its been despatched today by special delivery so will be here tomorrow. Well pleased!

At the end of the day, as long as I don't get a really low rate, I am happy to buy before I go as it stops me spending it. I mean, most of the online places offer enough that your getting 2 and a half to the £. :D
