Does anybody have a picture of the canal with the stalls? Im intrigued to see it.
The reason I ask is this was our first year in
Icmeler so know no different. I personally thought the canal looked really beautiful however it was a bit dark and dinghy nearer the bottom at night.

Lovely to see those photos as we really missed wandering around the canal last year. Just in case they don't return this year, anyone know where I would find the lovely couple that used to sell tablecloths there?

Thanks redrhino.
Certainly looks a lot brighter and more energetic than it was whilst we were there. I do however disagree with comments that it looks a mess now, it's still a very pleasant feature of the resort in my opinion, stalls or not!
We enjoyed a drink at the Majestic on an evening and the only negative we found about the canal area was that we had to do a detour to avoid the top end at night and walk along the promenade to come in at the bottom as the hassle from the Dream Boys door Staff and the restaurant next door was relentless. On a number of occasions I saw many people actually picking up a faster pace (sometimes a jog) as they chased them down the road!

i do hope they come back this year

Yes please, it need's something to bring it alive again. At the moment it's a no go area because it's dead.

In reply to dragon, the couple who were on the canal selling tablecloths have a shop in the same street as the NO Name pub, unfortunately cannot give you a name for the street, but it is off the main road. There are 2 shoeshops one either side of the road and they are on the left hand side. I did have a card from them but have misplaced it at present, sorry. Hope you can locate them.

Yes I would love to see the stalls back, really missed them last year. It looked an eye sore when you wandered down there on a night. As we stay on that bit of the canal we used to walk down there to get onto the promenade.

Hi Dragon they call the shop that sells the table cloths theImren gift shop, and it is on the opposite side of the road to the no name bar up the side street, we went to see them last year they are a lovely couple and will be so pleased to see you.

Thanks bobbysgirl and sylvia. Bought a couple of tablecloths from them the year before last and just hadn't got around to using them. Used them Christmas day and Boxing day and can't understand why I didn't use them before as they're beautiful and one of them doesn't even need ironing. Will definitely buy a couple more from them this year.

Yes I would love to see the stalls back, miss them of a night just strolling down

The shop mentioned has always been a big draw for my wife, who loves the Turkish lace.
There always seems to be something for the grandchildren as well, so they are happy to see us each time we call in.
I will miss the walk along the canal with no stalls there, so why can't the council not just put a little area of Turkish planting borders with shrubs in the vacant spaces. At least it wouldn't be derelict !
In many Turkish resorts, the abandonment of areas is rife, they just can't suss that we like to see nice gardens and clean areas as tourists.

As we stay in the old village, we have never even been to the canal area at night as it is too busy for our liking. That said, i hope the stallholders can find new profit making positions

I,d like to see the stalls back. it needs a bit of colour down that end of the canal, if not then at least tidy it up last season it looked a real mess.

Hi
Its nice to here that the underground market is to re-open
I enjoyed browsing and the wife enjoyed the spending.
It will certainly tidy up the area which was looking neglected.
Does anyone have any images of the work so far.
I am also curious as to what work is being done at the bottom of the canal.
Again pictures of work in progress would be greatly aprpeaciated.
Martin

There's no work being done at the moment at the bottom of the canal. Where Bamboo was, this is still a rubble filled piece of land. However once they do start work on it, it won't take long! You should see the new hotels and new frontages which have sprung up in
Marmaris over the last few weeks!
Also in Marmaris today, the new promenade along the beach taking shape (looks like new drainage system) and extending the width of the marina which is an art in itself! Ataturk statue standing in amongst huge concrete blocks. New Tansas in Marmaris taking shape, external building work nearly done. Where the old Tansas was, this is just a cleared area at the moment. Sorry didn't take my camera.
I haven't walked to
Icmeler centrum for over a week but if its a nice day tomorrow I will take some photo's, unless
JT is there before me!
