Anyone done the Pamukkale trip?

Postby icmelersun » 14 Jan 2012 01:58

I have been wanting to do the Pamukkale trip for a while but just never got round to it. Has anyone done it and have some feedback? Just want to know if it is really as good as made out! Also has anyone done it alone? Any advice/feedback would help :D

Is it over rated, in my opinion yes.

Want to say "been there and done that"? then go for it but always opt for the 2 day trip and not the same day return one as that is too much travelling to do in a single day.

Doing it alone should not be a problem at all, afterall you travel as a group on a coach and stay in the same hotel, have dinner together etc where you could chat and make new friends along the way.

We hired a car a few years ago and stopped off at Pamukkale on the way to Konya. It was a lovely place to spend a few hours and the scenery was breathtaking.

My husband and I went on a day trip from Icmeler through ICR. Very early start and long journey but worth the trip. The site was very impressive and much bigger than we had expected. To be honest we hadn't realised there was also so much to see by way of ruins. The trip gave us approx 4hrs at the site which for us wan't enough. Having done lots of walking and been down to the calcium pools, we ran out of time for a swim in the main hot spring pool (extra cost). All in all a long tiring day but one that I would recommend. We chose not to do the two day trip as we had already been to Ephesus the year before. If you havn't done either, the two day trip is the one I would recommend. The extra cost wasn't much and you get a nights accommodation in that. Hope this helps.

Definitely recommend the 2 day trip. In 2010 we went to Pamukkale and Ephesus (we had both been to Ephesus before but was still an amazing visit). At night we stayed in Pamukkale at a very basic hotel (not ICR) and we walked around the park and huge lake on the other side of the Pamukkale pools - it was all lit up and was breathtaking. In the lake were hundreds of frogs singing away, surreal. Apparently many Turkish couples go there when getting married as its lucky (we saw many couples in their wedding attire that night).

We left the hotel early the next day to walk around the pools - was so glad to do this then as obviously as the day progresses it gets so hot there and there's no shade. Again another reason for doing the 2 day trip.

Ephesus is just an amazing place, the mere dimensions of it blows you away and they are still discovering more buildings etc! Well worth it in every way.

We did the two day trip in 2009 and we would do it again, For us the highlight was Cleopatras pool (extra cost) at Pamakkale, go for it you will have a great time.
