Very helpful article as it summarises all the information. As they're businesses, the companies exist to make money so the more claims they pay out, the less their profits. So I think some will fob you off or try to pay a reduced amount if they can get away with it.

One thing that I've learnt in the past though is that if you make an important telephone call it's worth summarising the important points of the conversation, double check with the person you're speaking to that you've understood correctly, take their name and send it to the company as confirmation of the phone call so that there is then a written record. It's also better to use registered post. I was surprised how quickly our credit card sorted out our claim in full including consequential losses as I was prepared for a battle so it goes to show that there are still some reputable companies around.

Originally booked through Travel Republic and they booked flights via Holidays4U.Charged to credit card.Sent all forms back to CAA via Travel Republic so they could fill their bits in first.

Just checked credit card account and both lots of flights that we had booked for next year have been credited to our account. Just waiting now to see if they pay out for the differences for the new flights that we have booked for July.

Not sure if you can claim for them if you have paid for them by debit card. But you can if you have paid by credit card, spoke with our company today (Tesco's) and was told that it had gone to be assessed and that we should hear in 10/14 days. Quite hopeful that we will get the difference back, having got advice from both the consummers advice and money saving expert.

Hi All,

I have a little situation regarding refunds and was just wondering if somebody could advise me of what to do.

To keep it short I booked the hol i've just had with Travel Republic on my credit card. Travel republic reffered me on to the CAA, the CAA referred me on to my credit card company and have just spoken to the credit card company who have declined the claim as money was paid to Travel Republic and not H4U and they have reffered me back to Travel Republic for a refund.

Who is liable to give me a refund in this situation as I have now gone full circle and i'm back where I started almost 5/6 weeks on?????

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Tiberius,,,same as my booking.Booked through Travel Republic who referred me to my credit card co who at first said they would do my claim. They then decided it was not their responsibility and told me to go to CAA.I downloaded the forms from CAA,filled them in as much as I could then it tells you to send them on to your travel agent(travel republic)for them to complete. They did this and forwarded them on to CAA.I had a confirmation from CAA that they had received my claim and it may take 5/6 weeks. That was on 30th August. In the meantime I sent a claim to cc co.for subsequential losses for extra I had to pay on replacement flights. They also declined that so I rang Financial Ombudsman who have took over my claim from cc co.
Hope this is some use to you.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply. I'm going to fill out the CAA form today and send it off too Travel Republic.

However i'm now really annoyed by the whole situation as from the start i've been filled with a string of conflicting information from all parties and my losses now, what with new flights, phonecalls, postage etc are now about as high as the cost of one of the flights we lost..... of which i've no hope of getting back as I wasn't in the resort when they were incurred and the CC company have washed their hands of it all!!!!
