Hi Sue

I am going to Icmeler 5 September and will be going to the jewellers round from the ICR office almost immediately as my daughter wants a piece of jewellery making. I can ask him what price he is giving for 'old' gold and post it on here if that will help?

That's a good rate as it's 104.36 Lira or £35.63 a gram at the moment. It's worth hanging on to any gold for a while though as its value is rocketing. It's quatrupled in value since 2000 and is expected to double again within the next two years. So really if you want to buy gold, buy it now but if you want to sell, hold on.

The other option is to ask them to melt the gold down and make something for you of a unique design, you are then only paying for the workmanship, I heard of someone having their parents wedding rings which had been left to them melted down together and a new piece of jewellery made which they could wear as a mememto of both of them.

That's a lovely idea as you retain the sentimental value.
