Beach prices, yet another rip off!!

Postby Chris221273 » 17 Aug 2011 20:21

Went to the beach today, went to the same bit we always do, but got seem by a lady rather than the guy we've seen all holiday. Got shown to our seats and she wanted money straight away. The guy had a go at her, and she had a go at him. Then we laid our own towels, first time all holiday, then paid the woman, she came back with 10 TL change from a twenty!!!!
I had a moan and spoke to the guy and he said he didn't run that part of the beach, but I could see he was runiing a good 3 or 4 parts of the beach. So we stood up, grabbed our towels and walked. He ran up to us and asked what was wrong. So in these words I said back "I might be a tourist, but I'm not stupid, you run all these parts of the beach, yet make out you don't, and u keep calling me your friend! I guess we have different versions of friend than in the uk." Then we walked. 5 days we went to his beach, and it would appear he's nothing short of an opportunist crook! Won't ever go back to the beach again. We will come back next year, but would rather slum it on the free beaches towards Marmaris than use the ones in icmeler!!!
Beware newbies.....pay to use the beach and 2.5tl for a bottle of water that's 0.5tl in the shop.
I know I sound like I'm moaning a lot, but just speaking from experience of the last 2 weeks.
Such a shame as we had enjoyed the beach up until this point!!!

Chris. I would of thought after 2 weeks you might of realised don't buy from beach boys, there are shops/supermarkets a stones through away we always use same beach lad Omar in front of kontes hotel and same supermarket opposite heaven bar next genuine fake watch shop the guy in there is a true gent. Beds 2.5ytl which should be standard and drinks at usual supermarket prices!! I have never been ripped off in all my visits to icmeler and I think it my 17th time tomorrow. My advice to anyone is if a deal sounds to good to be true It probably is!! Not been sarcastic but it's a case of not burying your heed in the sand

I have to say the last time I visited Majorca I was charged for each sunbed and each parasol. In the two weeks I was there it cost me over £120 and there were three of us and that was at least 7 years ago. Each beach in Icmeler has their prices displayed and most are 2.50 per person if they charge.Never come accross dearer and been going a long time.Tell me where beds are dearer. My nearest beach is bournemouth and the prices are for half a day and the drinks and food are eye watering and there is no way on earth they will deliver them to where you are on the beach and let you lie there and run a tab.And run about for you in massive hot temperatures.Sorry but what were you expecting? The Turks have to make a living the same as us and its a bl***y hard one.

We had paid 2.5tl each day and were happy with that, and didn't mind paying the prices for water, but was just a bit shocked at 5tl for a bed one row from where we normally were! More so as we were told we couldn't bring food & drink to the beach and have watched people do it.
Turkey/icmeler virgins is all we are.
Just saying what we've experienced & looking for help/advice is all....sorry.

Chris, at the Munamar end of the beach there is a notice telling you the charge which is set for the sunbeds is 2.50TL each and if you are asked to pay more than that, it tells you how to go about complaining. I am sorry you have had these experiences, but incidents like this are in the minority in Icmeler - most of the people you will meet will be genuine, lovely people, and I hope things like this won't sour your impression of the resort. Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Hi chris, all beaches in Icmeler are municipal and owned by the government. The most you should pay is 2.5ytl and this is clearly stated on the beach front. I would not have paid it simple as that and you can take what food you want on beach cos as I said no bars/hotels own the beach all they own is the sunbeds!! Happy hols

Which part of the beach were you on? The only one I know of where there is a woman working on the sunbeds is the actual Council one (just past Marti Hotel) and they have to give out receipts for sunbeds.

I have been going to Icmeler for years now and I must say that this year that I was about to be overcharged on the old Linekers Beach but I knew that the sunbeds were 2.5 TL. It was new staff there who didn't know me and obviously they were trying to make a little extra on unsuspecting tourists.

On another note it's been 2.5 TL for over 8 years now so prices haven't increased. Compared to some resorts in Turkey this is still good value.

It is very unfortunate you have experienced that but there are good and bad everywhere and you cannot tar all the beach workers with the same brush. Why not just keep going to the beach place you have been happy at until this incident? Most of the beach workers are great guys who deserve every lira they earn and earn it honestly. If you had been here in the UK and living in certain cities you would have experienced young people rioting, looting and setting fire to places. Would you say that all youngsters are like that and never go into town again? Big difference is that Turkey is not as rich a counrty as the UK and they do not have all the expensive gadgets we have yet the majority of the Turks are respectful. Please......give the others on the beach a chance.

Sorry to hear about your problems on the beach Chris, as you can see from the previous posts the price of sun beds should be the same all along the beach, but as far as prices for food and drink, remember the beach boys get your food and drink orders from the restaurant that is normally nearest or affiliated to them , therefore you will pay restaurant prices for this service and that includes water, the price you pay is going to be the same as if you were sat in the restaurant, if I order when on the beach I am getting service so that I do not have to bother going off the beach, I am happy with that, if I want a supermarket price I get up walk over and pay a lot less, don’t let your experience put you off using the beach just because of a couple of people, take yourself and your money to another part of the beach, enjoy what many of us regulars have been doing for years a beautiful Icmeler.
