Just got booked up...but not for Icmeler

Postby blondie » 14 Aug 2011 14:47

Well, just booked up for a week in September - yay! Bad news is, it's NOT for Icmeler... :(
It'll be the first time for quite a few years we've been anywhere but our favourite little slice of heaven, but this time, we're really restricted in our dates and I think as a result of the H4U collapse, we just couldn't get flights from Edinburgh to match up with our dates, and hubby was reluctant to fly from any other airport as we're only going for the week.
So, the net result of it all is that we're off to Alanya for a week in September. I know it's not Icmeler and I'm determined not to compare the two, and in a way, I think it'll be quite interesting to see somewhere else in Turkey. But we'll be back in Icmeler again - hopefully next year - and I'm going to miss it!
Hubby had me searching the internet for places like the Balearics, Tenerife, etc - but I managed to persuade him that some Turkey is better than no Icmeler...

Thats what i would of done if ours had gone bust i said to my other half 1 holiday is better than none i proberbly would have had a look round for the cheapest country because when you have 3 kids you dont want to let them down at all, hope you enjoy your holiday.

Oh Blondie what a shame you can't get to Icmeler :-(

On the plus side you will get to see that Turkey has many other great places, I know it's not your Icmeler dream but I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. :-)

Also it'll give you the chance to try some more authentic Turk restaurants :-)

Am sure you will have a great holiday, it is the right attitude you have not to compare to Icmeler and it's good just to get away from the drudgery of it all here in the UK and get a bit of sun. If you don't like it as good then you will no doubt enjoy your next holiday to Icmeler even more! There are many of us affected by the collapse of H4U and Aegean and many have had to change their holiday plans, very unfortunate. I have managed to get flights at considerably more and not at my nearest airport. Hope everyone who was let down gets a holiday.
Have a lovely time.

Flying into Antalya, but staying in Alanya, JT. Just going with the attitude that it's only for a week and we're going to make the best of it - always thought it'd be nice to get out and about and see a bit more of Turkey, but Icmeler will still be No. 1 in our books!
Thanks for the thoughts - we can only fly out on one particular day, so that what's caused the main problem.

Blondie, I am sure you will both still enjoy it, even though its not Icmeler. It will be nice to see some more of Turkey. If I couldn't get to Icmeler, I would be happy to get to somewhere else in Turkey too :D

Thanks, reesy - that's the attitude I'm taking - and at least we've already had a fortnight in Icmeler this year. If that hadn't been the case, I might have felt differently, but in a weird way, although I will miss Icmeler, I'm quite looking forward to seeing a bit more of Turkey.

Alanya is much bigger than Icemler. Dolmus is cheap. Beaches are very nice - one of the best in Turkey. They do white water rafting there if you are into that sort of thing. Go to Alanya castle - excellent viewpoint. Plenty of places to eat including nice Turkish restaurants. You will enjoy!

We have been to Alanya best to look for small familay run resturants a street back from the beach front we found a couple of nice places,we also went on some trips and did what we do in Icelmer use their dolmus and buses lovely country side.Sure you will have fab time we had to rebook at a cost and not from local airport for Sept.Looking ahead for next year we have already booked but again not from local airport.lets hope things settle down again and we can find our way to OUR ICELMER without having to pay silly prices for flights. As ive said befor once been to Icelmer your under a spell :D

Thanks, flosie - already been given a couple of recommendations for nice Turkish restaurants which aren't touristy, so we're looking forward to trying somewhere different now and getting out and about and seeing a bit more of Turkey.
