They deemed my clear bag a few cm's too big (a bag that was given to me the last time I flew via Heathrow), and gave me the option of confiscating all my toiletries or escorting me landside where I could buy the correct bag and then join the end of a very long queue to re-enter security.

I didn't have time to do that and so had no choice but to forfeit all my toiletries. Sounds minor but with aftershave, the Gillette power razor etc there was £30's worth.

Crap like that has bugger all to do with security and everything to do with being a jumped up jobsworth. I know Stansted is BAA but even so, I shan't be flying from there again…..ever

Darren Prestwick done the same with us.... Bag was slightly to big and hubby had to dump Gillette fusion razors that I had only just bought for him... cost ME £13 just for the razors.
To be fair though we have had some of the best service ever when using prestwick airport in the past. The jobsworths do tend to spoil things.

Why did you need to dump razors, they are not liquid, I don't put my razors in a clear bag when travelling, only my shaving foam, toothpaste, deoderant etc.

Sorry for posting off topic but I'm confused.

Hi Dave
We stopped of at tesco on the way to prestwic , bought a few bits and bobs razors included and then when going through security we was asked to remove the razors and replace the clear bag with one of alowed size  . they told us the razors had to go in the bin , Ive no idea as to there thinking on this as it was new to us regarding the rules. We did not have time to question this as we were running late. It did seem odd at the time .

I was travelling sleezyjet so no hold baggage and had all my toiletries in the clear bag. TBH I was that annoyed at the whole debacle that I didn't even think about that, they were being arses and insisted that everything in the bag was either confiscated or I had to go landslide and start all over.

Sterling travellers cheques

07 Aug 2011 08:40

Hi, know there is an ongoing topic above, but wanted my post to stand out as travelling next Saturday and getting confused now and really need some advice!
I know the ideal solution when travelling to Turkey is to take Sterling and lock it up on arrival, but don't fancy travelling with that amount of cash.So my options are:
- take some Lira to get us started and a pre-paid travel card(we did this last year and used at ATMs in the Square) but sure we got charged each withdrawal
-Take some Lira and Sterling travellers cheques.
I am not too sure about the travellers cheques though as they seem a bit "old hat"! Does any Icmeler expert know if you can still cash them anywhere in Icmeler and if so where? and are they a good and safer alternative to cash as in as good exchange rate??
Any helpful responses gratefully received!
Thanks,

You'll have no problem changing cheques in the little supermarkets and you will get exactly the same rate as you would with cash, just dont use the exchange bureas.

Hi Adele,
We always take some Lira to start us off for a few days as well as good old travellers cheques which we have no problem changing in supermarkets and also at hotel with excellent exchange rate! We also have a Halifax Clarity card ( bit late in the day for you this time!) which we use and as long as you pay it all off next statement you get no interest charges for using it anywhere ie: bars, resturants etc... worth checking it out. Plus a bit of good old sterling as then we have something to go back with if we don't happen to spend it out there!!!!! Hope this helps....Enjoy and relax. xx 39 days to go :D
