Who's going to fill the gap?

Postby cheriton » 03 Aug 2011 23:59

With the demise of another company selling flights and holidays to Turkey, I'm wondering who is going step in and fill the gap. H4U with Onur must of brought a lot of people into Icmeler and other resorts, so will another tour company now supply enough flights to help fill the resorts. Next year could be interesting as to trying to get a flight if nothing changes. :?

You do have a point there, also I hope it doesn't affect the businesses in Icmeler as some are struggling already. It puts the situation into prospecive in a way as we just have to wait for a refund for our holidays but those guys need to live all winter with no work and is bound to affect not only bars but hotels/apartments, boat trips, shops, markets etc, they all have to earn a certain living to last them from November till May. Hope something comes up with airline to fill the gap. There are no flights to Turkey at all now from my nearest airport.

This fiasco with H4U/Aegean has just opened the door for the big operators to print money as they will now be charging what ever they want for flights to Turkey and god knows what it will be like next year.

My thoughts are for Icmeler in general , once all the people already over there return home , who will take their place ?
we were there in may and it was pretty quiet then , we were booked up to go back in September but we don't know what to do now , good luck to all the people in the same position .

honestly i think this will have a big effect on icmeler as a lot of the apartments, hotels, restaurants and bars are already struggling this year with most people opting for all inclusive places
aegean flights/holidays4u were a big player for turkey and icmeler/marmaris and now they are gone which just allows the big companies like TC to cash in and take more control which is completely wrong

I have just spoken to the apartments were we are going to and they say they have been busy with loads of cancellations due to Hols4U. Also they say that bookings for this year are much quiter than last year. I think this will have major implications for businesses in Icmeler.

I travelled to Crete in 2008 with Kosmar Holidays just before XL went bust. The resort was extremely busy and all the hotels seemed full. I went there again in June this year and got the impression that the resort still hadn't recovered from the demise of XL.
There were lots of small apartment blocks and hotels stood empty, looking like they'd not been used for some time so I'd say that the void in Crete had not been filled by the other tour operators.
Most of the larger companies do not use the smaller hotels and apartments and most of the people in Crete were the non UK resident all inclusive brigade who go for a walk in an evening but do not spend a great deal of money in resort.
I hope Icmeler does not suffer the same fate as this.

Agree with last post. T C**k and Th*****n tend to use the bigger hotels and apartments , so you would have to wonder how some of the smaller ones will survive. I hope ICR can manage to swing some sort of deal with another company to fill the void left by the collapse of H4U. With the Euro in the turmoil it is , Turkey has a chance of becoming ever more popular as a holiday destination and it would be in ICR best interest to hammer out some sort of deal with another company for flights. As for people like myself (Belfast) it looks like we are stuck with the big 2 now unless we opt to travel to England first for an Ea***** flight. Hopefully the smaller apartments will survive this season and something can be put in place before the start of next season. Fingers crossed

while I can see some sense in peevo,s post I somehow dont think that would happen. I know numbers are down in resort and yet another operator has gone bust , but still think that Turkey may be the choice of future for holidays because of the Euro. I can see a bleak future for the Euro with more and more countries needing a bailout.

I have always thought that there are too many restaurants / bars in Icmeler.... I am all for competition, but it does mean that many of them really struggle at times when business is short, or something like this happens.
You cant blame them for trying, and lets face it, they all think they can do better than the last or they wouldnt put themselves in that situation.

My heart goes out to those people. :(
