I was thinking the same but it's only two weeks before I go and after reading the following article I'm going to wait, it looks like it may get higher and the Turkish central bank doesn't seem that concerned.

Başçı also said Turkey’s situation is “good,” in fact, “we’re looking into it whether it’s too good or not.” The country is more resistant regarding external shocks, he added.

“There’s no need to be over-concerned,” he said, according to Reuters. “We’re following the situation closely and are ready for various scenarios.”

I'm not entirly sure but it could be and I personally think it may climb higher BIT IT IS A GAMBLE, However saying that I have just been in town and saw M&S was selling at 2.67 and I couldn't resist and changed £500 just in case it drops in the next two weeks, if it goes higher I would have lost out but if it drops I'm a winner, it's the highest rate I have ever had since going in 2002.

I know earlier today I said I would wait the two weeks but changed my mind, I'll think I will be keeping the remaining £s I have and change it over there on a as needed basis.

What ever you do the choice is ultimatly yours, I am not an expert and could be totally wrong, the value of the Lira can fall as well as rise. I was wrong in April when I changed £500 and got 2.52, if I had waited I would have had an extra 75Lira (15 Large Efes) but thats the way it goes sometimes and I am still happy that the rate is the best for years.

Thanks dave, I have been watching http://travelfx.co.uk/index.php and the rate is good, its a pitty I jumped in earlier in the week when the rate was less.
At this current rate I will jump in again and exchange all the rest of my spends I can during next week ( Pay Week )
Its a gamble as I dont go untill Sept.
Last july we only got 2.2ish-2.3 at the most.

Aggggh! :?

I've just had a look through that link and the rate is so good I'm tempted to order some right away but now I have the problem of trying to figure out how much we'll need, lol!

I don't want to order too much and be lumbered (or spend just for the sake of it!) but I don't want to be too cautious and miss out.

I need to sit down and seriously plan our spending (plus a bit extra :) )

Catch22 janeypoos damned if you do and damned if you dont . I know exactly how you feel.
For me it could be a diference of 800-1000+ lira over 2 weeks. I am basing this on what I got last year for my £. Or be greedy and hope it goes up more.

I think you have to go to the main bank in Marmaris but they may be too old now for them to exchange, it's like the old currency in the UK the only place you can change old British currency is the Bank of England. ( Now where did I put those white £5 notes?)

I picked my tickets up today and asked what the rate was that they were offering for Turkey.
The reply "Ummmm I don't know sir to be honest"......I won't be getting any from there then!!!

Friday night the interbank rate closed at 2.7678 in the UK, the far east / Australia markets have now opened and its just hit 2.78 so could be an interesting day tomorrow when the main markets open.
