Do the bars/restaurants/shops put their prices up when......

Postby Chris221273 » 22 Jul 2011 19:14

........the exchange rate goes up?
I was working out how much we are taking, and compared the rate from when we booked to now and reckon we will be about £100 better off due to the higher rate.
So do the shops etc etc increase their prices or leave as is in the knowledge that if we have more spends they'll reap the benefits?

Last year we had 2.30 tops to the quid, this year could well be 2.70, over 14 days thats a massive 560 lira we would be better off, would we hell save it though we'd spend it. So why would anybody put their prices up? In the 2 times i've been there I've not seen prices go up at any time, down yes, but not up.

There was an increase in prices at the apartments we were staying at in June compared to end September/October last year. The exchange rate was good when we were there in June and we actually spent less at the apartments this year than the previous year

We are very much going to enjoy our holiday.
I only asked a question!!
I'm not always keeping an eye on money, just asking if we'll be better off that's all.
Didn't realise that was a bad thing!!!

I have never noticed bars putting their prices up during the season as the rate goes higher nor do they drop the prices when the rate goes lower. The only time I see any increase is when a new season starts due to inflation.

Reap the benefits, its great to have a higher exchange rate after the last few years of decline.

Edit to say not seen bars OR shops put their prices up.

Yes prices do go up,we always go the first two weeks in June and every year we go to Venice our first week for a meal, when we go again the second week the menu looks the same, but the price has always gone up !! noticed this in a few places.September we have always seen the prices go down and more offers about on meals.

alot of the shops are converting at 2.50 when you ask how much in lira, cause they all want £££

so effectively you're saving on the exchange rate , but i did notice a couple of shops in marmaris had upped lira for tops etc..
