What other villages/towns do you visit while in icmeler?

15 Jul 2011 15:19

Hey all.
I just wondered what other places you go to while on holiday in icmeler and the reasons you go there ie visit old ruins etc etc.
Thanks

Chris

Turgut Selale (waterfall) is a very peaceful spot to visit. You can get a dolmus from Marmaris and enjoy a walk through a pretty wooded area up to the waterfall. There are a couple of small restaurants where you can get drinks and snacks. Try the gozleme (pancakes) with sweet or savoury fillings.

Kizkumu, on the way to Turgut, is very pretty too. You can walk right out into the sea on a sandbank. Prices for drinks on the beach are a rip off, though.

Akyaya, Datca and Turunc are all nice too.

Just Turunc and Marmaris, Marmaris just for the market and then back to Icmeler as fast as the dolmus will take me! Have visited a couple of other places over the years but if I am there only two weeks I want to savour every moment and not be stuck on a bus travelling somewhere that to me will probably be second best to Icmeler.

I would have to say Akyaka, Its a very Turkish style resort that is laid back. No boom boom music ,infact no music at nearly all of the restaraunts. Just chill and get talking to the locals who speak little english.
We spent a few hours teaching english words to our waiter ,he then returned the favour and gave us a Turkish phrase book  ..

I couldn't agree more Lewis, I just feel that while we're out there we should see a few bits. We are not really the sort to just sit around the pool each day and would like to see other sites. Its only gonna be probably 2 days out of 14 that we'll visit somewhere else, just wanna look around :-)

This will be our third year to Icmeler and I'm determined to visit Turunc. Said it every year, we will see

depends how cheaply you want to get out and about Chris - you can take a dolmus or water taxi for say Turunc or Marmaris
Or, you could negotiate a price for the day and take a taxi and let the driver show you around different places? met someone who did that a couple of years ago and raved about it

That's a great idea - we've really only visited Marmaris and Turunc, but I like that suggestion. Might do that next time.

I thought so too, especially if there are four of you to split the cost.

We love visiting Orhaniye. Idyllic and unspoilt. Just get a dolmus to Marmaris centre, walk up from Tansas and you will eventually get to the dolmus (bus) station. There you will see a Dolmus with Orhaniye on the front window. This will take you directly to Orhaniye without having to change. There is a small motel type hotel right on the beach and they do fantastic meals including meat balls, salads and plenty of fresh bread. This would be the perfect place for an author to sit for hours thinking about a plot to write a book. Can't wait to visit again this year. If any of you do decide to visit, then please make sure you ask the driver of the dolmus when the last dolmus returns to Marmaris so that you can be on the main road in plenty of time.

This place to me is sheer heaven. My son is in the process of finishing writing his first novel and I have strongly advised him to pay Orhaniye a visit when he is thinking of his second novel.

Hope this helps.
