Hi everyone I hope you can help . A friend of ours is going to Icemeler for the first time and is really looking forward to it . We have been able to answer all his questions about the resort except one .He is a Muslim and asked us about the meat served - is it halal ? I assumed it would be with Turkey being a Muslim country but was not sure .So we look forward to hearing from all you Icmelerites .

Don't worry. Being a Muslim country the meat is halal.

I don't think this is a strange question yes Turkey is a muslim country but a lot of things are not really halal.
According to a muslim friend of mine ( and she is Turkish) she says its even not halal to prepare and serve pork meat or alcohol.
Also smoking and tattoos are haram(the opposite of halal)
But in relation to the other meat inTurkey like chicken , lamb etc yes I believe the way they kill the animals is in the halal way.

I would tell your friend to check with the waiters as it seems there is no guarantee. The food they serve to the customers is not nessecessarily the food they themselves eat. I have a muslim friend who always asks even if in a muslim country. Thats the only way you can be sure.

Well, was beginning to think it was a stupid question!

So thanks Moon and chocoholic for your replies and your constructive advice which I will certainly pass on

Think it would probably be best to ask in restaurant as you say chocoholic. I'm sure our friends will enjoy their first holiday in Icmeler. Hope you all have a great time too, if you are going this year and thanks once again

I think perhaps that meat served in the [teetotal] pide places is more likely to be halal? But as you say, it may be better just to ask. Some of my muslim colleagues at work refuse to eat anywhere that sells alchohol even though the places profess to be halal, whereas other muslim colleagues don't mind.
hope your friends have a great hol nonetheless
