Is the August day time heat too much??

My partner came home from work yesterday and was saying that some of the people she knows who have been to turkey say it's just too hot, and that by 1pm you can't do nothing apart from go indoors.
So now she's a little worried it will be too much for her.
I've tried to reassure her that it's a different heat and that you learn to cope with it pretty quickly.
Does anyone else who travels there in August suffer and hide away from the sun?
I know everyone is different, but I've been In 45 degrees c+ for 2 weeks and loved it

we go at the end of aug every year and never feel we have to go inside to get out of the sun..... just find yourself a shady spot about lunch time or your efes will get warm too quick x

The heat can be oppressive!

My wife loves it, but I -basically- run from shade-to-shade and spend the best part of our time sheltering from the sun.

The midday sun can be fierce and your best bet (or your wife's best bet) is to head for the beachside and soak up the breeze. The other alternative is to arrange boat trips where you don't feel the heat as much.

That said, you do become acclimatised fairly quickly and learn to cope. Irrespective of how long I spend in the shade, I always manage to get a good tan!!!!

A couple of years ago, when we arrived it was 56 deg. in the shade (133 fahrenheit in old money)!!!

We went at the beginning of August last year and doing the same again this year but like lespaul i sit under the umbrella and follow the shade and take loads of dips in the pool to cool down. My other half loves it and so do our teanagers. You just have to be sensible and drink plenty of water and if it does get a bit much in the sun there are plenty of places to get a bit of shade and still enjoy yourself. It does get a bit much and is certainly too hot to walk too far. I love it if I am lounging around and is lovely when I go in the pool or sea to cool down. I think the only thing to worry about is sunburn and sunstroke so a hat and high factor sun tan lotion is a must.

I agree with most of the comments already made.
We always are there end of July begining of Aug. Ist Aug this year, as it was last year.
As other people have said, just be sensible, plenty of lotion at least twice a day a hat plenty to drink (water!!).
We have found it is quite a bearable heat particularly on the beach. It is humidity that gets you down. Mostly quite dry heat, not sticky etc. Beware of hot sand/shingle beach. Midday onwards very hot so beach sandles needed.
Dont worry be prepared and all with be well.

we also go every august and although it is very hot its a different heat to here,it can however drain your energy so make sure you have plenty of drinks and be sensible with sun cream high factors usually until you have a good base tan.just dont overdue being in the sun too much when you first arrive common sense really,cool off in the pool or sit in the shade when you get too hot.enjoy your hols and tell your partner that once your bitten by the icmeler bug theres no going back!!!!!!!!! happy hols xxxxxxliz

Temps can reach 55c in the day and due the area being surrounded by hills it is a very hot area to visit also it gets much warmer do the coast than inland also who ever said it was a dry heat must of gone may or june as in august on the coast it is often very humid

I have gone in august for 10 years and have never felt it humid, the air is dry as dust

I've never found it humid either, unlike hear. Theres to much moisture in the air in this country thats why its so humid. I love the heat over there, actually love walking in it...just be careful as it's extremely hot. Also remember the temps you see on BBC website is for the shade temp.

I ejoy the sunshine but I'm afraid that August would be too hot for me. I have been at the beginning of July and that was too hot.

Much worse I find is the heat at night time when you are trying to sleep. Temps at midnight can still be around 30 degrees so you really must have air conditioning, otherwise it can be difficult to sleep

We always go in June and October, but last year we had an extra holiday, so had 10 days in August, from 3rd - 13th. I found it very hot compared to the usual times that I go, but you could find many ways to cool off and make it more bearable. I spent most of my days, just laying in the baby pool to keep wet and cool.

Would I go back in August - the answer is yes if it was for an extra holiday, but I do actually prefer June and Oct. That said, last Oct was a lot cooler, so we have brought it earlier for next year and going on Sept 22nd.

I am sure you will find ways to keep cool, just try and avoid walking around in the midday sun, and drink lots of water. Have a great time.

We always go August/September. I usually find that you need to wear very little clothing, find a good bar, find a good pool, find a good spot on the beach and when you start feeling too hot do a mixture of all four!!

Well said Keith. We have always gone in June or Sept but this time its 12th August. Cant wait for my shave in the "air conditioned" barbers. Pool & Efes is a great way of cooling down. Last year we went to the Dom Rep. It got rather hot on the first day so decided to jump in the shallow pool and found to my amazement it was warm. So not enjoyable just needed my soap

Thanks for the replys everyone.
My girlfriend loves the heat, it's just what her friends at work told her that it would be awful and we wouldn't be able to do stuff during the day.
I have relayed some of your messages to her.
She can't wait to get in the sun and get a lovely tan. At weekends over here as soon as the sun comes out we rush out, cream on and sunbathe.
So bring on icmeler.........28 days and counting
