Sidik's Family Restaurant - Old Village

Postby Joan_Woodall » 24 Jun 2011 14:07

Many of you may know Sidik when he used to work at Efes Inn with his brother Mehmet. Both have now left and Mehmet is now managing the Blue Star Apartments in the Old Village (next to the Majestic Apartments).

Sidik, for the last couple of years, has run a restaurant called Captain Sinbad's in the Old Village. This year he has moved to set up his own restaurant called "Sidik's Family Restaurant". If you walk past Romance Restaurant (on your right) and Robin Hood Bar (on your left) Sidik's is a little further on just before you get to Efem Apartments on the right hand side.

As the name of the restaurant suggests, it is run by Sidik and his lovely wife and it is a true family concern. A lot of his customers have followed him from Efes, Captain Sinbad's and now to his own restaurant - which goes to show how popular his meals are. He serves both traditional Turkish and the usual steak/chicken etc. All food is fresh and cooked to order. His garlic mushrooms are to die for.

We ate there on Wednesday 22nd June and his restaurant was absolutely packed to capacity. He had a group of friends in (8 in all) who were celebrating a birthday and three lots of people (including ourselves) who were dining there on the last night of their holiday. We had to wait a little longer for our meal, but Sidik had brought in extra staff to help out as he knew it was going to be busy and everyone worked so hard to try and keep all the customers happy. Eddie was his usual attentive self and couldn't apologise enough if he had left us unattended for more than a few minutes. The meal was well worth the wait, it was cooked to perfection - we didn't mind one bit that the meal had taken longer than normal, who is in a rush when they are on holiday anyway?

Give Sidik's a try - he is a lovely man and does everything he can to give excellent service in every way so if you do have to wait a little for your meal - sit back, relax and enjoy the ambience - you will not be disappointed.

I remember Eddie, Sidik and Mehmet from years going to the Efes Inn and remember how kind they were to myself and my very elderly husband, they showed us the upmost respect. I am still in touch with Eddie and he keeps me updated on the family. Sadly holidays in Turkey are no longer possible but who knows................one day
Good luck to them all, they deserve it, for all their hard work

Hi we have just returned from 2 weeks in Icmeler and we went to Sidiks because of the many recomendations on the forum. We seemed to be the only people in Icmeler who had not stayed at the Efes....even though we have been to Icmeler many times over the last 8 years. However we trekked up there the first week when it was very hot, although it was in the evening.Possibly thursday the 23 june though not 100% sure. The service was awful, only two of us and we waited well over an hour for our meals. Six people were in for a birthday celebration who were very loyal to Sidik. they all ordered steak and waited for at least 90 minutes. They did say if it had been anywhere else they would have left. Our meals were ok,can't say any better than that. The six who were celebrating did ask if there was a problem and if they could help. They were told everything was ok.Sorry but this was our true experience. If one of the staff had said ok we have a bit of a problem and its going to be a bit longer then it wouldve been ok,but nothing was said.Shame.

It just goes to show it horses for courses when it comes to restaurant reviews, I have been to a few that people have raved about and thought they were nothing special, others that people have said were not so good I have found them OK, the lesson is try them all, it would take you longer than two weeks, you really are spoilt for choice

That's a shame, we were going to give it a try this year after everything we read , also because we are staying up in the old village. We had this last year with a restaurant loads of people raved about and still are this year. It was our first night and I made a bee line for this place,I couldn't believe how disappointed we were so never again.
Now while I realise that everybody has different tastes and I should give it a go I'm not prepared to throw away up to £50 to find out. :(

We ate several times at Sinbad's in the past two years when Sadik was running it and found the service to be slightly slow and the prices slightly higher but the quality of the meals was excellent and worth both the wait and the extra. JT's review is a wee bit off-puting but we will still be happy to give the new place a try.
BTW, we don't classify the location of the new place as the 'Old Village', Sinbad's yes, Sadik's no.

Never let a review put you off

That was my own personal opinion and as always everyone is different

I think I have eaten is more places in Icmeler and Marmaris than anyone but I didn't put my review compared to the quality of other places as in taste wise

I eat most of my meals at home so if I am going to eat out then I expect a little more as if you would go out in the UK as in service, quality of food, prices of food and drinks to the size and quality of the place and of course presentation

I go anywhere and give it an honest try, we have never gone on a loyalty basis and to be honest we used Jimmys Okimo as our base line this year..ie above or below.Jimmys is just honest consitent food.I say just lightly! For us a long walk and even longer wait for ok food.As we are not known at Sidiks we werent asked our opinion or given the chance to comment,no check back. He needs to do a lot better to crack it up there.

We went for 11 days on 9th June and ate at Sidiks every other evening as it was so good, everyone has there favorites and different tastes, we tried the Tandoori Sizzler which everyone raves about on the 1st night of our holiday and didnt rate it at all, we all had something different and none of us was impressed. The service was also very slow, we waited for over an housr and was beginning to think they had forgot us, when the meal arrived we had some wrong items, but couldnt be bothered to wait for another housr so didnt moan. As others have mentioned if you go for 2 weeks, there are enough places to try a different one each night. Hope you all enjoy your hols as much as I did. With a bit of luck and persuading Hubby I may even get to go again later on.

We ate at sidiks recently which we only found towards the end of our holiday - wow we are totally in love!
The meatballs are to die for and sidik and eddie are fabulous hosts. And as for price such value for money, 1 starter 2 mains and drinks for £22! Including a lift home that was completely unexpected - we feel like family. Please give it a try you wont be disappointed.
