Efes

12 Jun 2011 19:51

Does anyone know why Wetherspoon in my local town can sell a bottle of efes for £2.30 and the price in icmeler or Turkey is an average of 5 Lira which i estimate to be approx £2 surely the difference should be alot more! What do you all think? I love efes and was glad to see wetherspoon stocking it and i always nip in on a friday, cant wait to sample a bottle in the blistering heat so refreshing!!!!!

Correct me if I am wrong anyone- but the bottles of Efes you get here in the UK are much smaller than the bottles in Turkey. The ones I have got from various places here have been considerably smaller.

Dear Chocoholic They are the same size 500ml, although i did buy the taller slimmer bottle from a supermarket alot cheaper and it was also 500ml i think,

I think (someone will correct me if wrong) but the price off drinks is set by the local council at the start of the season.

Basically tax, tax is higher in Turkey on alcholol.

The same question is why can I get a good bottle of malt whiskey cheaper in a normal French supermarket than I can in Scotland, same answer is tax.

The following is taken from a news article

Beer has been a second target of the AKP’s cultural war against alcohol. Between 2002, when the AKP came to power, and 2009, taxes on beer increased a shocking 737 percent, with an additional 45 percent increase between 2009 and 2010.

OK guys. I suppose the answer is not to drink less but to save up and take more holiday spends!

Thats why I try and take 20% more than I spent the previous year, it's either that or the wife will have to drink water instead of Gin so I can have my normal intake of Efes, however saying that Efes has gone up 20% this year on average but the Lira is about 10% better as well so an effective increase of 10%

£2.95 in my Wetherspoons so a bit cheaper for me in Icmeler.

Very good points made on Efes. But, I agree, it all comes down to bringing more spends. Coz I am certainly not giving up my Efes this July! :D

I'm sure it was 9.75TL for a four bottle pack in Tansas, which is about £3.80, or 95p each.

£3.10 in the Wetherspoons I go to now, so even more of a bargain in Icmeler for me. I noticed on Tesco's online shopping site that Efes was available but my local store doesn't stock it so I emailed Tesco to get them to and they are going to oblige

Just back from my local off sales and lo and behold they now stock Efes. Happy days. 8 bottles of Efes plus a free Efes glass £7.99. Love it

Sounds good - at least it'll keep you going until your next holiday. Always tastes better in Icmeler though, doesn't it? :)
