I don''t think they are any bigger this year, but I think they are slightly larger than the old lira notes when they were with 000's on and everyone was millionaires!!!!

The millions were removed from the notes in 2005 and were replaced with Yeni (New) Lira, these were totally withdrawn in December 2009 and replaced eith the 9th Series of notes where the word Yeni was removed, these new notes are scheduled to last until 2019.

There have been reports of some change shops handing out yeni notes in the UK so please be careful, also check what you get when in Turkey.

Old Notes no longer accepted Note the word Yeni printed on them.

Dave, thanks that is really useful. Think my dad still has some of the old style, will they not accept them at all over there?

I was given some "yeni" notes last summer, a Turkish friend told me I'd only be able to change them in a specific bank in Marmaris - couldn't be bothered with this so asked our friend in the supermarket next to Tandori Sizzler :D and he changed them for me no problem (he did take a small commission but it saved me a trip to Marmaris and back)
