Getting married in Icmeler - help please!

Postby jools » 27 Jun 2011 20:30

Hello,

My friend is marrying her turkish boyfriend in August in Icmeler.

All their documentation has been taken care of in Turkey, but she is a bit lost about what she needs to obtain over here. Has anyone got any knowledge of what she needs to do/where she needs to go to sort documentation? The British embassy has no clear information on their website.

Thank you so much in advance!

Looking at other sites you need

1. A certificate of No Impediment. The certificates must be obtained from her local Registry Office in UK. Ideally apply at least 2 months before she arrives in Turkey

2. Full Birth certificate (Not short version).

3. Divorce–decree absolute/death of former spouse/adoption/change of name certificates; if applicable.

4. 6 passport size photographs.

At least three working days prior to the wedding day she needs togo to the British Consulate in İzmir, where her certificate of No Impediment will be translated. This allows you to marry legally in Turkey and for your marriage to be legal in the UK. (I think that this proves the Bans have been published for the required three weeks)

My understanding is she may need to have blood tests in Turkey as well prior to the wedding.

I suggest she should really speak to her wedding planner as she is pushing it very close to get the certificate.

More info

I was incorrect, the bans need to be published for 15 days.

What is a "Certificate of Non-Impediment?

Sometimes called a "Certificate de Coutume" or a "Certificate of No Impediment" or a "Certificate of Nulla Osta" or simply a "Certificate of Freedom to Marry", this is a declaration from your country of origin of your freedom to marry.

Almost all countries require that a couple can provide such a certificate before they will issue a marriage licence.

Hi

Dave was spot on, certificate no impediment, going to izmir, blood tests etc. I had to do all of this when i got married a couple of years ago. The stress and running around was a nightmare but its definately worth it. :D

Good luck :) :) :)

If she is living in Icmeler she can do it all over there. I married while i was living in Turkey, and didnt have to come back - you go to British Consulate office in Izmir, they can post your bands there, when you pick up your Certificate they translated while you wait, and we then took to the Turkish Consulate to have "stamped" and validated (same day). This was on day 22 after being posted. She will need to be in Turkey I think around 28 days before this though, not sure exactly, as I was living there anyway. Oh and yes, i had to have blood tests done, the clinic opposite big Tansas in Marmaris is where the registrar sent us, you take the results with you when you book a date - all very easy actually :D you can chose to get married in the registry office or ask them to come to your chosen place, but does cost little bit more, maybe 50 lira i think.
