Olu Deniz is a must!!!

I was last there in 2001 and would much rather go there than Icmeler! the only reason I go back to Icmeler is to visit friends and family.

If you're looking for something different then I would strongly reccomend it. Head up to hisaronu for a livelier night life.

ah well I dont agree. I dont think that Olu Deniz even compares to Icmeler, it doesnt have the same buzz and atmosphere as Icmeler and you may go for a change of scenery but I bet you always come back to Icmeler!!

Olu Deniz is very pretty and you can watch (or partake) the paragliders coming in from the mountains. There are actual bars on the beach itself and you can listen to waves lapping onto the beach as you sit on the sand. They floodlight the edge of the sea at night so you can see it. Personally I prefer Olu Deniz to Hisaronu coz I like being by the sea but everyone has their own idea of a perfect resort. You can also visit the lagoon and take a pedalo out, great snorkling there too. There are plenty of bars and restaurants, but they are more expensive than Icmeler, or so we found. Having said that, we are going back to Olu next August. I am sure you will enjoy it.Hope this has been some help to you

To be honest, for some reason "The Icmeler Buzz and Atmosphere" seemed a little lacking - now not sure if its because we know it too well and need a change or because it was quieter and the owners or restuarants etc were worried about business. But, there is a big wide world out there to explore, we cant seem to keep away from Turkey, so decided to take a look at new places, no doubt yes one day we will return to Icmeler - and look forward to that day, but unless we try, we dont know what other places have to offer. Let see what happens next summer, hope I'm not eating my words and wishing I was in Icmeler!! but sure my boys will be happy whereever we are as long as there is a nice pool!!

I have tried every resort in Icmeler apart from maybe two or three and a number of other countries in the "big wide world" and I always end up going back to Icmeler. I think even though they were struggling this summer they were still second to non and if anything their worrying about the bad season only seemed to improve eagerness to try and please. We booked a late booking last year and went to Spain for a week and the Spanish people could learn a hell of a lot from the Turkish. Anyway this forum is about Icmeler and what a fantastic place it is!

I agree - you can't beat Icmeler. My first tast of Turkey was staying in Hisaronou and Olu Deniz.... Hisaronou is a bit of a shanty town (sorry to those who like it, but its my opinion)..... too much in the way of English bars, restaurants..... one main road, and not much else going for it.

Icmeler on the other hand, is beautiful, has some English (for those who really must have English), I love the atmosphere there, the friendliness, and most of all, love the friends I have made there over the past 4 years. I feel like its going home everytime I go....only trouble is hubby wants to go somewhere else next year for a change    I may have to try and organise a girly holiday there :D :D

Change of resort

Postby Me » 27 Sep 2006 22:39

Hi everybody!

We went to Side this summer for a wee change. We have been going to Icmeler twice a year for the last 8 years.

We all enjoyed Side, it is a lovely resort although very much geared up for German tourists.

We didn't find the people as friendly as in Icmeler. Although it might have been a language barrier as they all spoke German and Turkish with little English. Everything in the resort was more expensive and there were fewer shops and restaurants, but I must say that it was a wonderful holiday and still better value than at home.

Love Me. :)

We went to Olu Deniz four years ago, beautiful place, lovely beaches, including Bobs beach, though we always found the lagoon too crowded.Resturants were very nice and the food was lovely.
People were very friendly but the place was very quiet of an evening we didnt find that much entertainment in the bars at night, not like Icmeler.

Hi,
I went to Olu Deniz three years ago. It is a lovely place and quiet quite. There is not that much to do in the evening but you can take a dolmus to Hisoranu which consists of mainly one street. It does however, have a few bars.
I much prefer Icmeler   . Now that I've found Icmeler, I really can't see that I would enjoy anywhere else as much!! 8) 8)

After going to Icmeler for the last seven years decided on a change so we went to Olu Deniz. Much smaller resort and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves very good atmostphere good restaurants, Secret Garden in particular was superb and inexpensive (not cheap). There are several beaches and those on the opposite side of the lgoon are less crowded and very nice. We will go back to Icmeler to meet friends but feel it will in the next few years become more like Marmaris. Olu Deniz I hate to say would now be our first choice.
