There are two kinds on kindles, one where you can connect to a WIFI and download straight from the amazon shop and the other where you can connect to 3GS if you don't have WIFI.

However you can download free books from the internet to your computer and then just transfer them over onto the kindle.

Its so easy once you get used to it. The battery lasts for ages I haven't charged mine for weeks and I have been reading for a couple of hours every night!

I'd say get one your wife with love it, you can now buy them from Tesco and then you just need to set up an amazon account and link them together.

There is a range of free ebooks and ones that you pay for on the amazon site.

& there is about 10 hours or so battery life on a full charge :)

Amazon advertise two months of battery life with the WIFI turned off.

And I would say there is a lot more than 10 hours battery life

I agree...battery life is really impressive...and personally I wouldn't splash out the extra money on the 3G model unless you travel to lots of different countries all the time and want to download stuff whilst you're there. Wireless networks are getting more and more coverage now so I spent what I saved by not getting the 3G on more ebooks. A friend of mine has the 3G one though and is more than happy with it. I think its about £40 more than the standard WIFI model so 'you pays your money you makes your choices'. Just off to amazon site now to do some 'holiday book shopping' ..yeyy!
