Books!

08 Jun 2011 20:12

Does anyone know if there is anywhere I can buy/swap 2nd hand books? I like to read on holiday but I don't really want to take too many with me.

Thanks

plenty of the hotels and appartments have little book clubs if you want to change books.

can't speak for EVERY hotel/appt block but pesonally, every apartment i have EVER stayed at has had a pile or shelves of books, either at the bar or in reception. You add to the "pile" with books you have read and take any you want to read off the "pile"

I never bring books home. Any I have taken on hols have always stayed in the hotel for others to read. More suitcase space for the home journey too. :D

The little supermarket just down from Harry's Steak House and opposite Usyal Apartments sells/swaps books and most hotels have a book case where you can swop books. :)

In the places I have stayed guests often leave the books they have finished and you just help yourself. Leave yours for others if you don't want to bring them home. Have done this when finished all mine and never been bookless.

Thank you all for your posts. I was hoping that would be the case as I have often found the same in the past.
What's the betting Palm Garden don't though!!

I stayed at Palm Garden in 2009 and they did have a book shelf beside reception where you could swap books. I had taken a couple of Martina Cole books with me and managed to swap for another that I hadn't read :)

You can swap books in most places, I went for lunch one day in Ida Pension and because I had a book which I had almost finished with me I was taken inside and was told to borrow whichever book I wanted and I wasn't staying there ha ha

I'm a kindle convert now so no more running out of books for me

Just bought a kindle. Absolutely brilliant, if I'd realised they were so good would have bought one earlier. Its paid for itself already in the number of free books I've downloaded today :D

They are brilliant aren't they. But dubious at first but now I can't put it down I read more now than I ever did and can't wait to take it on holiday with me, save me some weight on the old luggage allowance ha ha

It also solves the problem that I always seem to have where loads of pages in my books become loose. Don't know if it's because of the heat in July and the glue holding the pages melting. I'm like a kid with a new toy

No doubt we shall see you Alison in the Sizzler in July :D

Last Friday there were stalls in the square and they were selling books with the proceeds, I understand, going towards helping the dog home. Worthwhile cause and also a place where you can donate your books.

As an avid book lover, I will be making the most of any stalls, swaps, etc, which I can find. I really toyed with the idea of getting a kindle, especially as we're coming for almost a fortnight this time, but just haven't got round to it.

I might well do that for next time - don't have time to do it before I go on Sunday!

to any of you thinking about buying a Kindle, DO IT!!! I bought myself one for Christmas and it's great. You can get a handy little cover that not only protects it but acts as a stand thereby leaving hands free for food/cigs/EFES.. genius! Plus as Eatock says, it saves valuable space in the luggage allowance...so more room for SHOES!
