Another music request

Postby Bazza » 17 Sep 2006 19:41

We recently returned (5th sept) from a 2 week stay at the Miray hotel. We spent a lot of time in Troy's and thoroughly enjoyed it. I could write loads and maybe I will in a different thread but for now back to my original request.
Every night in Troy's they played a Turkish dance track. There were no words and it was used on the Turkish nights as music for the Turkish wedding. I was dragged up to dance to it one evening, I believe the dance is called the Halay or something (I may be wrong).
Does anybody know it? have you been to Troy's and know what I mean? I'd like to get hold of this particular track if possible.
Thanks in advance.
Baz!

I love troy's! the guy called antonio who works behind the bar was my holiday romance so we were in there nearly every night, I can't remember that song though, must have had too many cocktails! they let me go behind the bar and make my own cocktails so i went a bit mad on the vodka! did you see the michael jackson impersonist and the break dancers? i thought they were really good. good place to watch footie too!

sorry, bit off topic!

While we were there the Michael Jackson impressionist was there most nights, the break dancers a few times. The staff at Troy's are brilliant and really so friendly, we're still in touch with some of them. I must add I beat Antonio at arm wrestling (he challenged me), not something I usually do, I think the beer got the better of me that night (and many others too :D )
If you are still in touch with Antonio say hello from Mafia for me 8)

I will do, i'll be teasing him that he got beat aswell! On our last night after too many beers me and my sister danced on the bar with the lads, i don't know how they can do that, i was clinging on to antonio because i was scared of falling! the things we do after too much alcohol! who are you still in contact with?

One of the waiters - Gokhan.
Feuzi, he's a bit on the quiet side but a really friendly bloke, and 2 others who's names I cant remember or pronounce.
I would thoroughly recommend Troys to anyone, you really should spend at least one evening there.

Hi
This is for those more adventurous ones out there, if you can understand it lol
LET’S DANCE HALAY – STEP BY STEP

Armenian Dance
The Halay is a traditional men’s dance from the village of Soosoon, in the District of Kharpert. The style of the dance consists of an erect carriage, with a solid stance and flex of the knees. The line moves as a single unit.
As the tempo of the dance increases, the tension builds and the dancers embellish the basic step with crouches, pauses, and sways of the torso.

The Formation has the line of dancers very close with fingers interlocked and arms held at right angle by bending elbow.

To start:
step forward right foot (R),
step forward left foot (L),
step forward R,
lift L low to front,
step back on L,
step back on R,
step back on L,
lift R low in front,
step R to right, step/sway L behind R,
step R to right, step/sway L behind R (torso sways forward and back twice during sequence),
step forward slightly on R, flex knees twice/ bounce twice,
step slightly back on L, flex/bounce knees twice,
Repeat sequence.

Have a great time, practicing the dance....
