Fresh Fish

Postby Erik The Viking » 26 May 2011 11:35

Hi fellow Icmerlerites,

Last year we made the fatal error of feasting on steaks etc for most of the holiday (believe it or not i rarely touch red meat at home!) This led to some digestion issues which i wont go in to

This year its going to be more pastas, more chicken and more fish. I know you can get fish in salt etc but can anyone recommend anywhere in Icmeler that does really fresh fish that you can have grilled?

Ideally it would be nice to see it before its cooked in one of those fridges and then watch it being grilled. A couple of years ago we watched lots of people have fish in a restaurant (which i wont mention!) but the fish in the display cabinet never went down - there were still the same 12 start and finish of the evening! This raised suspicion as to what was actually being served.

If there is nowhere in Icmeler what about Marmaris?

Cost is not an issue. although we dont want our pants pulled down over the price if we can help it!

We have not had any really nice fish in Turkey since we visited a place in the middle of some woods during the night while on a Gulet cruise from Bodrum to Marmaris back in 1994!! We were served a sprat sized fish with salad and they were caught right in front of our eyes, they were superb

A few years ago we went to Marmaris for a meal, and I got to choose which fish I wanted. This was along the Marina, I cant remember the name of the restaurant though, but you couldn't miss it.

It wasn't too far past the 3 palms bar.

Quite a few places do fresh fish - if you ask them, they'll tell you what they've got in that day and ask how you want it cooked. if you've got restaurants which you like anyway, I would just ask in there - they'll probably be more than happy to cook something fresh for you.

lovely bits of fish but you will pay a bit extra for it

I think the tandoori sizzler said they are doing fresh fish this year, and have a display cabinet which you can choose the fish you like.

You are right - in another thread, they said: "we got new fish display fridge today.everyday you can have fresh sea bass or sea bream or king prawns or many more kinds.you can choose it from display and will be cooked on charcoal grill. will be very fresh and wont be frozen stuff.prices wont be high"

I was once in a restaurant in Marmaris and asked about fresh fish. The answer was 'Yes, fish is fresh each day. Wait, I show you'. Waiter came back with a frozen fish wrapped in cling film and proceeded to bang it on the table. 'See, fresh fish'.
