How to convert a turkey virgin - help needed!

Postby jesslbr » 18 May 2011 21:57

Hi all,

Iv been going to Turkey for years, and especially love icmeler but i havnt been for around 4 years.
My OH is a Turkey virgin, and im just about talking him round to the idea of visiting icmeler at the end of Aug! Yippee! :D

He's 22, and im 20.. and was wondering if people could make recommendations of good hotels/apartments/bars/trips or anything really for us.. as i dont want to end up in a rubbish apartment that taints his image of turkey. Basically, i also want him to leave a Turkey lover so i can continue visiting year after year and he will get why i make such a fuss over the place, and id hate him to be disappointed by it!

If he doesnt want to return, i may have to call the relationship off! haha

Fingers crossed!

Interested in this myself as my Sister is coming with us this year, first time to Turkey, and she is 60. She doesn't have a great impression of Turkey, so I am hoping to convert her myself, by taking her to meet some lovely people that we have met over the years, nice places for evening meals etc, and I am sure if I can find her a good karaoke night, she will be sold :D

Hi and welcome, jesslbr - maybe if you could give us an idea of the type of places he normally likes, we could make some specific suggestions for you. Does he tend to go for the more lively type of bars, for instance, or would he prefer somewhere quieter, perhaps with a more authentic Turkish feel? As for trips, the lazy day boat trip is always a good choice - but if he likes things a bit more active, there's the jeep or quad safaris. ICR also do rafting and diving excursions if he's the sporty type.

The best advice I can offer is to get them to join this forum.
So much information, very FEW bad reviews about anything, and the vast majority of posts are from Icmeler LOVERS who were all at some point, "Turkey virgins"
The praise the place gets on this forum should encourage anyone to at least "Give it a try" :D

I really struggled to get my hubby to go, now he wont go anywhere else, he have visions of rickty street and getting dragged into shops and being offer camels for his wife, and dirty, not liking the food , and in general not safe, he now amits how wrong he was
the food is great and the people are magic
I also booked for mum & dad , first timers, after we raved about it, they loved it found it really relaxing and found the people lovely after 24 hours they confessed that although where unsure, they loved it and wished they found it years ago

well for the last couple of years he's been on lads holidays *sigh*, so bars galore is what he's used to.. but he said he wants a chilled out holiday this time.

But iv been to some hotels in the past in turkey that organised water polo and things that that for the guests.. and i think a hotel or apartment that offers this sort of thing would be good as i think he'd get bored lazing around the pool 24/7.

Also on some of the hotels reviews iv been looking at, it seems that some of the turkish hospitality has been absent, and i want to avoid places like this as I want him to see how friendly the people really are!

He is quite active, so i think il defo be booking onto the jeep safari and quad bikes (even though last time i went on the quad bike trip i was take off my bike as i kept accelerating into trees by accident! oppsy!)

Looking for quite a central location hotel/apartments as on a tight budget and dont want to be paying for taxis. At night time just plan to go for a nice meal, watch a bit of entertainment and have a couple of drinks, not really bothered much about hardcore clubbing!

Any tips? :) x

Not really sure what hotel to suggest as we always go to apartments. Went to Oylum hotel in 2007 but there was no entertainment there so wouldn't say that is what you are looking for.

As for places to go at night i would suggest Champagnes, Sevgi, Wonder Bar, Dream 3 Bells, Majestic and Elvis :)

Definetely go on a boat trip i think this excursion suits any type of person. I would go on one everyday if i could

Some other excursions i think he would like are horse safari, river rafting, diving and the show in Marmaris 'Talk of the Town'

Im sure you will convert him, Enjoy your holiday :D

depends what kind of hotels or apartments you like
do you like a hotel with bed and breakfast or half board or all inclusive ?
or a self catering apartment ?
i take it from your ages that you like going out
in icmeler there are 2 clubs eastenders and pleasure so i would visit them
and there are lots of good bars to choose from
hope this helps

I wouldn't worry about taxi's in Icmeler. If you can walk for 15 minutes without being out of breath then you can be nearly anywhere you want in Icmeler. The resort is only a mile long and less than a mile wide.

I don't think you can walk more than 500 yards without passing a Restaurant, café or bar.

hiya

we have just returned after a 7 day stay at the moonlight apartments with a party of 10(ages 48 _ 62), 6 of whom were in turkey for the 1st time. they could not stop saying how much they loved everything about the place and could not believe they had taken so long to come here, they are spain lovers , (or were up until now). the apartments were fantastic, the staff everso friendly & helpfull, weather perfect, resort spotless, food & drink great. prices very reasonable; trips & excursions plentyful, bars & resturaunts in abundance. if this does`nt convince him to get his butt over to icmeler I don`t know what will.
i know 6 people that are going next year for a 2nd time.
