Yeap, Dalaman is extremly hot on overweight luggage and you have to pay cash, if you don't have the correct amount in Lira and use Stirling they give you a terrible exchange rate. I would not risk it if I was you.

It depends.....

My son flew back from Dalaman yesterday. He had 22 kg, but his girlfriend had 16kg. They didn't charge him as the combined luggage was less than the 40kg F***t C****e allow for 2 people travelling together with 20kg allowance each.

May not apply to TC but hope this helps.

Cheers Andy

We bought holdalls from Argos last year which saved us three kilos each and they held just as much as the suitcases. It's surprising how much empty suitcases weigh. We also take our luggage scales with us just in case as I like to bring home a few goodies as well :)

I agree most airlines allow you to comnine luggage, we do it every year, two holdalls between 4 of us, total 60KG (No single item can be over 32Kg but check with your airline), TC never used to have an issue with combining luggage but it may have changed.

I have seen some luggage bags as big as suitcases on eBay for £7.99 and you get a 90litre holdall with wheels that weighs just over a kilo and a matching hand luggage bag for that price.
Cheap and weighing a lot less than a suitcase but with just as much room!!!
Got to be worth it if your on a 15kg limit.
I upgraded to 20kg each but am still going to get these bags :D

I bought those last October, Chris - they were great! You can fit a surprising amount into both holdalls and they are a lot lighter than a normal suitcase.

yep dalaman are very strict on overweight luggage
and i think their scales are slightly wrong in their favour too
as last year i was 2kgs over on the way out
and went for 13 weeks to icmeler
when i came back i was also 2 kgs over but i had none of my toiletries i went out with and didnt buy much presents
so i really didnt understand how i was still 2kgs over

We got ripped off big time about 3 years ago. There was a family in front of us and some of their cases were under weight and some over weight so they took them off and let them swap stuff around so their cases were correct. We were up next and exactly the same thing only they whizzed our cases off onto the conveyer belt and demanded £20 (it could have been more) from us. My husband refused and asked them to bring back the cases so we could balance them out and they said no we don't allow that so my husband, who is normally quite calm got rather annoyed and said yes you do we have just watched you do it for that family in front, anyway to cut a very long story short they said if we did not pay up we would be escorted from the airport and refused our flight and we would get our bags whenever. My son and daughter were distraught and my son thought daddy was going to the Police when they frog marched him off to the cash machine and stood over him whilst he drew the money out. It was a very distressing time so when I next get the chance to visit my beloved Icmeler we will ensure that the cases are not over weight and yes they are definately about 2kgs in their favour on the scales. Bad Dalaman Airport

Dalaman airport is totally corrupt, we had a really bad experience a few years ago with my wife who was pregnant[see my earlier post].

ah i think TC may of done that combining suitcases with us now i come to think about it. think i better take them out empty then as i want to buy some goodies too. the luggage scales could be a good idea too. not very happy they cheap us out of 2kilos though as that will be 4kilo in total as there is 2 of us. Bad dalaman airport

I take the scales with me and - if it's anything close to the 20kg - I weigh again at any empty desk I can find at the airport - just in case!

mum and dad in law went with TC last week and yes they looked at the bag weights for the whole party (2 of them), BUT there were a group in front of them who had over weights cases who had to pay and because the cases were overweight they also weighed their handluggage which also turned out to be overweight. But mum and dad in laws they didnt weigh as cases were fine.

I also don't risk it if the holdall weighs near the limit. Normally I don't put anything in my jacket pockets, but as I enter Dalaman airport all my pockets (I wear a jacket with plenty of pockets especially for this reason) are stuffed with bits and pieces that before they started charging, would have been in my hold luggage. They haven't started weighing us yet

Having the jacket isn't a problem as I just carry it and then put it through the X-ray machine. I intend to do the same with my Itsa towel, it's not going in the luggage, I'm taking it on the plane with me instead of my usual pashmina. Neither the jacket nor the Itsa towel will be weighed as hand luggage as they are your clothing. Where there 's a will there's a way :D

Hi Michelle /Tony,As my daughter in law ally has said that in dallaman they are strict on weights but you can use the empty check in scales to check before you go to your check in desk. With T.C. airlines each passengers case must be on or below their luggae allowance they will not let you add both cases together if one is more and one is less. Also in the uk T C airline weigh your hand luggage as well at check in on the outbound flight.
