Hi,
Don't know if you can rent them.
I take a portable dvd player with me and it is handy for listening to music as well.

Never heard of hiring a laptop as many of the bars/restaurants allow use whilst you are there drinking. As the above post suggests I would get a DVD player, they have come down in price and you can buy DVD's from the stalls and market, I have bought them on occasion and they have worked perfectly (naughty naughty lol.........they are copies but very good quality and at least your Mum will have something to watch)

Hubby bought a portable dvd the other day, just for the plane. Got a Panasonic with an 8 inch screen, and 7 hours of battery life. From Comet reduced form £199 to £99, great bargain :D

hiya
little netbooks or notebooks dont cost that much nowadays and are small enough to take in your hand luggage
it might be worthwhile investing in one
not sure if you can rent one from somewhere
but as someone else suggested put the films on a memory stick and use an internet cafe or something in icmeler for watching them
hope this helps
