First it was the little train, the apple pie and ayran man, then the underground
market and this year the stalls down the canal, can`t help wondering what will
be next, all these things helped to give
Icmeler its charm don`t you think.

I agree Thornbird,
Icmeler was original and is fast losing its identity. But then again that's happening in England, our village is fast becoming like every other place in England. Knocking down old buildings and putting up massive Tesco store, demolishing our local pub and building a retirement home etc
Why has everything got to be the same, not unique?

I Agree, I love a walk along the stalls on the canal in the day. The Ayran man i miss also.. I am addicted to ayran my fridge is always stocked with it in Icmeler. I think it is going to come to a point where we are going to have to go into
Marmaris for anything at all.

totally agree my wife cant believe canal market gone it was nice walk in evening after meal ,its a bit of walk if there near market
20 Apr 2011 10:16
Totally agree as well, I loved it down by the canal with them stalls. I'm just worried it may have lost some of its charm for me this year.

For the people that are saying it is a bit of a walk to the new location, well it wont be any further away really unless you are stopping at the Marti's Aqua, Gondol or Fortuna.
In fact if you are stopping in the village or any of the hotels from Devamli towards the main road where Tansas is then it is closer than before
20 Apr 2011 11:41
Where is it from The Alvaro John? Must be close if it's close to the Tansas.
20 Apr 2011 11:55
At least the stalls are going to be relocated
I think it will take a lot more than that for
Icmeler to lose its charm
20 Apr 2011 11:58
The new location of the market stalls are not near any of the popular bars though or nowhere near the beach. Many people including myself and my family would visit the stalls enroute to Venice bar etc, was definately in a better location before as it will be out of the way for many. There are many more apartments and hotels in the area it was before and I feel really sorry for the stallholders as to me it is obvious they will not do as much trade. Why didnt they give then the waste ground in between Tansas and Imperial apartments? That would be a far better location than where they have now been allocated. It has been waste ground for as long as I can remember and to be honest compared to the rest of
Icmeler is an eyesore.
20 Apr 2011 12:45
The waste ground would be further away from where they are supposed to be going from their original pitch but as of yet I have not spoken to anyone that knows for certain where they are going and there are no stalls being erected at the moment.
You could look at it in another view and say that those bars such as venice and majestic became popular simply because people went to look at the stalls then found the bars and if so then there will be a few more bars near that street now hoping and praying that the stalls WILL be located there

With all due respect
JT ..........speaking as a lady and talking to many many more I would say that a great percentage of us female population go to and even drag our spouses to the Venice bar to oogle the hunky dancing waiters! We too like eye candy LOL!

One lady said her very elderly mum loved to go to oogle the waiters dancing topless and she would be sat drooling with her mouth open!

I'm trying to look at it positivly. Where ever the stalls are re-located to I will still go and have a wander round and hopefully find a new bar or restraunt along the way to try or become a new 'haunt' make new friends etc
I don't think
Icmeler will loose its charm just because the canal stalls have been re-located, the friends we have made there and the places we visit
is Icmeler's charm and why we go every year

most of the changes in
icmeler have been for the better we will just all have to wait and see what we think when we all get there this season

I quite agree. It is a case of wait and see and then decide. Roll on 3 weeks Friday

I agree with Katie - let's wait and see for ourselves. I remember a lot of people were a bit concerned about all the changes taking place before the start of last season, and to be, personally, I felt they were changes for the better. I must admit to being a bit worried about how losing the stalls from the canal will change the whole atmosphere of that part of Icmeler, but let's just give it all a change to settle down and see how it all pans out.
20 Apr 2011 19:33
i agree with the wait and see no one can tell if the changes will or will not be for the better.
20 Apr 2011 20:14
Can't see a problem with the stalls being moved. I always like to take a walk through the stalls but couldn't help thinking that it would be a better experience without 100 decibels plus of ear splitting music coming from 4 different bars, all in competition with each other.
Please don't anyone think that I'm in favour of stopping the music altogether but I'd like the volume of music regulating.
20 Apr 2011 21:51
Aah the little train sadly missed
20 Apr 2011 21:55
The changes are usually an improvement but on seeing the photos of the new promenade although it looks nice I preferred the way it was before. There's no way of pleasing everyone is there? We've taken some lovely photos along the front in the past.
22 Apr 2011 22:59
yep me either i dont see the problem of having the stalls in another place
will miss them at the canal because it wont be the same down there
but it will be nice to have a change
