i could just not do all/inc in icmeler....for me it would take away the appeal of why we visit.

when we visit, we stay in apartments not sold by ICR but by first choice, and 2 years ago, the owner mentioned about going A/I..if thats the case, we shall find somewhere new to stay.

maybe tui will pick up the self catering/ half board side?

all inclusive would slowly kill any resort its ok when you are miles from anywhere but in icmeler its a bad idea and from what i have learned from talking to people not one have said a good word about most ai in turkey they are miles behind other countries regards organising good all inclusive facilaties a lot better to explore and find good resteraunts of your own choice.

The quality and variety of food you get in Içmeler AI is nothing compared to what you get out and about in the bars and restaurants. AI is handy during the day if you want to crash out by the pool and have a few drinks or a bite to eat but come the night time when you want fantastic food then AI will never win. Casseroles and chips each night constantly isn't my idea of a great holiday.
Unfortunately my missus has got us AI this year due to it being my 30th birthday and she knows I will want to drink my holiday away (whilst also getting a nice tan) so I think she thinks it will be cheaper that way during the day but at night I want decent munch and a nice pint of Efes in the bars and restaurants so I will be going out

Well, I think there maybe something a bit wrong with me! I am going A.I. as I have done before, but I do go out and about during the day, to the beach etc. never the pool, and always go out in the evening, frequently for a meal, but not always, it seems to suit me.Mybe next year I will do something different, but still in Icmeler.

No-one's saying there's anything wrong with AI in itself (it's not for me, personally, but I can see why some people would opt for AI for a number of reasons). However, I think what does concern many people on here is that a proliferation of AI hotels could change the atmosphere of the Icmeler we've all come to know and love so well. There will always be a place for AI, but there are so many wonderful places to eat and drink in Icmeler that many of us feel it would be a shame if a growth and rise in AI places had a detrimental knock-on effect on those.

Tandoori Sizzler, Vince's, Bonjour, Cupids, Jimmy's and Wayside, but there are so many we haven't yet tried you could probably find us anywhere.
we are staying at the Chateau de Ville which is lovely, right next to the beach and easy access to the town, can't wait for 19 May to come.

I dont agree with the AI policy as stated there are to many fab eating places, I dont think First Choice is all that big in Icmeler or turkey in general, as T***** C**** have the most propertys, I think that the hotels offering AI should be genuine 4 or 5 * propertys and monitored to make sure standards are kept to, or decline to give them that status if they fail the standards. I fear lots of hotels are being sold with this "leave your wallet at home" message but a lot dont meet the mark

all inclusive is not for icmeler,there are too many good things about the place.this will take the charm away from icmeler ,the jewellers the haggling at the shops and market and the joy of eating out.this is why icmeler is for us all,ok you can go to an all inclusive as i do in the winter long haul and spend less than i do in icmeler for 2 weeks but this life is too short to scrimp and save .

everyone needs to give the restaurant owners a chance and not these huge hotel chain companies
i just spoke to a turkish friend that is working in alnaya
and he said that they have started doing this thing called ultra all inclusive which includes import drinks too
another way to entice guests

My wife and I prefer half board as opposed to B&B or self catering but would not go AI as the only time we are in the hotel is for breakfast, evening meal and to sleep. During the day and evening we like to wander aound having a drink here and there and a light lunch as and where the mood takes us. I would hate to go on holiday and spend 24/7 at the hotel which I know many people do, having spent their money on AI accommodation. We are returning to the Aqua this year but will again be going HB as opposed to taking the AI option. Generally, widespread AI will eventually destroy any resort with bars/restaurants closing down left, right and centre due to a lack of trade.

Aqua went fully all inclusive for 2011 and are not doing half board

The restaurants have taken a bashing in the last few seasons. Avian (bird) flu in 2006, H1N1 (swine) flu 2009/2010 and now the credit crunch. On top of that the 'no hassle policy' is great for us, but not for the restaurants. Hope there are not going to be any more All Inclusive hotels planned or I expect a few more will have to close.

Hi JT, we booked HB at Aqua as soon as we got home last year (June), all paid for now, and have not been informed of any additional cost or requirement to upgrade to AI. Regardless to whether we are upgraded to AI or not we will be still spending our normal limited time at the hotel with most of our time out and about. Thanks for the info.

I couldn't agree more, our first trip to Icmeler was ai and we only had a couple of meals in the hotel ( had afternoon snacks and a few beers, well a lot of beers) but there where to many great bars/restaurants full of friendly staff great food and entertainment to stay in one place. Our next 4 visits have all been in small self catering aparts and we have got to know loads of new friends who we meet up with every time. Will be back again in june, looking forward soaking up the sun deciding which bars to take in each night. Lets leave Icmeler alone now its had enough changes, i like it the way it is

I love icmeler for the wide choice in bars and restaurants, i would never consider AI. Only every been AI once to cyprus and after the first week started eating out as the hotel food got boring,this cost us lots extra

Going AI to Icmeler in September. Myself, husband and 5yr old son. It cost £100 more than going self catering. Thats approx £7 a day. With the little one we spend most days around the pool so will easily get our money s worth in soft drinks. We eat out every night and do all the the sights and trips as anyone would SC. We dont miss out on anything being AI we gain. I can understand if your not "pool" people this might not work for you.

i can understand why people go all inclusive such as the post above for families with young children
personally a big part of our holiday is eating out every night and trying different restaurants and would never consider going all inclusive just because i ts not for us

I read that the reason for First Choice going AI only was also to split the brand between First Choice and Thompsons as they are the same company now. This year we are going SC due to everything I have read here and on Trip Advisor forum but we usually go all inclusive to cover our drinks daytime and breakfast and lunch but still go out every night. We get the best of both worlds this way. I think a lot of people do it this way so won't necessarily affect the trade in Icmeler.

Hi Gene, yes I am! Thanks very much I appreciate the message. I joined ICR a couple of days ago. Glad I found it to be honest as I was really surprised at the lack of posts on TA for Icmeler! Still getting used to this forum so posted my question on TA Going to Turkey for the first time in May and I like to research where we go and enjoy the forums gets me extra excited about the holiday!
