Sterling or Turkish Lira

Postby supersaintsrlfc » 11 Apr 2011 17:40

what currency do people tend to take with them Sterling or Turkish Lira
I normally take small amount of TL and the rest GBP just wondering if there is any benefit to doing it this way or is the exchange rate good enough to take travellers cheques
many thanks

I take a small amount of TL and the rest in sterling travellers cheques and change them in the small supermarkets when we are there just for safety. :D

We always take enough lira for the first day or night depending on what time we arrive then the rest in Stirling as you always seem to get a Better rate in icmeler

Same as above just enough to get you through the first day in lira then sterling travs, always got the best rate under icr last year and I did hunt around but it was always the best.

Hi we tend to take enough lira for a few days then change sterling. I suppose we really should take travellers cheques as they are safer.

We always take a couple hundred pounds in Lira and the rest in English Money, gave up using travellers cheques years ago although they are the safest option

I usually take a mixture of lira, English pounds and travellers cheques but last year one of the banks wanted to charge me 20 lira to cash a £50 cheque so I went to supermarket below ICR office and got it cashed without charge. I also got a good rate of exchange for English pound. I used the ATM and discovered my bank charged an administration charge for every withdrawal so I will take larger amounts less frequently this time. I read on this forum that you can withdraw English pounds from ATM in Icmeler so I will try that when there in May - 41 days to go :D :D :D

Never had any problems with sterling travellers cheques in Icmeler, so always take at least half in cheques, some cash for the market etc and enough lira to see you through the first hours or so.
