Re: Promenade Widening

Hope they don't allow these machines to fly up and down. We are coming back to Icmeler this May with my 2 year old daughter who loves to run around. She will have to be kept in the pram at all times if this is the case and it will cause nightmares for us and her with her wanting to get out. Keep them away!!!

If the Segways do come and they get too close to my family where I believe they are a danger to them they won't have a rider on them for long.

Rami, this is an interesting article for you to take to the councli

In reasonable hands with an experienced rider I would not be too worried as there is evidence in Quebec where they are allowed of very few incidents, my concern with the Segways is that they will be rented to novices who may have been drinking.

There is a time and a place for everything.

I don't think that Icmeler promenade is a place for segways especially during the holiday season. Surely they should be used in more suitable areas, where there is less of a risk to others. Watching the segway crashes on youtube is quite worrying. Its a shame if they will be used on the promenade as this would make it dangerous, even more so for the elderly, disabled and for children and this is if the riders are sober, I dread to think of the accidents that could happen if the rider was under the influence.

I wonder what the councils duty of care policy is and how that would stand up in a court of law, if we are injured by a segway or scooter (And I don't mean a mobility scooter) and the council have widened the promenade for their use without a barrier seperating them from pedestrians then surely their duty of care has failed and ultimately liable, immediately the company renting them would be let of the hook as the council have provided an area for there use.

I know in this country there would be issues.

But we must all remember that we do not know if the widening is for this or just cyclists or even more people. It will be interesting to see the signs that are erected if any.

AFAIK it is only the USA and UK that works on the principle of where there is a blame there is a claim.

Holiday insurance is a must and foremost

saw scooters using the prom last year, mind you mostly ridden by the police, and not slowly either.

this is Turkey
there is no or very little that is evident health and safety laws
im taking a guess and im sure someone will come along soon and correct me if im wrong but i would gather that if you got injured from being hit by one of those things
the court would just say tough luck you didnt look where you were going

If they ever really want to get into the EU,this would have to change

Re: Promenade Widening

Provided that you have adequate travel insurance you would be covered if involved in an accident.

The only problem is that if you have drunk any alcohol it depends on your insurers, apparently some won't pay out if you've drunk any alcohol even if you're not to blame, whilst others use the word "reasonable" amounts of alcohol. The problem is how they interpret the word reasonable. Any decent insurer would allow a few glasses of Efes as this is "reasonable" whilst you're on holiday and unreasonable to expect you to be teetotal.

It's just another thing we need to check when deciding which insurers to use.

I don't see there will be much difference, scooters went along there before , all they have done is give them there own lane to ride in, I see this making it safer for walking along there, if you don't want a scooter up your ass, then don't walk or stand in the scooter lane.

All people have done is moan all winter, moan bout segways, which can I remind you the council has never said segways will be introduced into Icmeler, this came from a member who said they were in use in Marmaris !! Moan about the canal area, moan about all the works going on, moan about Friends being re vamped.

Give Icmeler a break, she emerges in May as a beautiful revamped place, then everyone says, Oh I love Icmeler, my slice of heaven blah blah blah, then next winter it will be moan moan moan again.

We don't like change, and we are a nation of moaners, but come on guys your depressing me now.

True, Colette - I'm thinking back to this time last year, when everyone was doom and gloom about the changes being made to Icmeler last season, but to me, most of the changes were for the better. I'm not that happy about the stalls moving from the canal, but I don't think the latest changes will change how I feel about Icmeler, and I can't wait for June to come around so I can see them for myself.

Agreed Collette Icmeler hasn't failed us yet.

Every year has been an improvement on the last. Even the surprise move of the canal stalls we now see as a positive and have already made a list of new restaurants to try in the old village. Roll on July :D

Can't agree more Colette.

Probably best just to sit in the Tandoori Sizzler and take advantage of the cheap drinks, no risk of getting hit by a segway then - hic hic

Ok, this is the latest information I have got today. The extra lane is for bikes and electric scooters etc. I have forwarded your (also mine) concerns for not having any sort of a separtor between the new lane and the walking area except the color difference or the paint they plan to put on the road.
The answer is, they will see how things go this year and then will either put a low curb or some sort of a divider next year. To me, its not right postponing such safety measure but on the positive side, at least it will get done next year (after a few accidents, it may get done overnight too:)(we are used to such fast developments in TR)

New Development Plan:

Icmeler is planning to have a new faculty of the Mugla university with a capacity of 4000 to 5000 students. This would change Icmeler in a positive way for holidaymakers as well as residents so hopefully they will stick to this plan and get it going soon.

I suppose electric scooters includes mobility scooters? I agree with you about the kerbs though as someone who is not going fast enough will be overtaken, which could cause accidents.

Just answered my own question by reading your post again, one lane is 'a walking lane' so the other is for everyone else.

Well said Collette couldn't agree with you more all these people moaning, come on peeps you haven't even give the changes in Icmeler a chance, just remember the wonderful beach will still be there, the sun will be shining the weather will be fabulous and the surely the most important thing the wonderful Turkish people who without them you wouldn't have the fantastic holidays you have :D
