It may not look like a topic about
Icmeler but listen.
Early hours this morning a ship arrived at
Marmaris escorted by a Turkish warship with 3000 Turkish citizens evacuated from Libya
http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/n.php? ... 2011-02-24Hotels in Icmeler and Marmaris are now looking after these people and there are more ships on the way.
UK citizens are still in Libya because UK government is scared to go in.
Jeez

Watched the news three hours ago and people that had arrived home safely were interviewed but there are many more still at the airport. There are also others distributed throughout the country and it looks as if the SAS will be used to get these people home.
Hope everyone from every country gets home safely and soon as it seems to have developed into civil war out there.

I think the british goverment should be ashamed at the time it's taken them to get their finger out and do something, I see the prime minister has issued an apology

that will realy help the folks caught up in Libya
let's just hope that everyone gets out safely

Just read in The Daily Mail online
'Temporary consular arrangements are being put in place,' the statement added. 'The Turkish Government will now temporarily represent British interests in Libya. The British Pro Consul Lauren Johnstone will remain in Tripoli and will work closely with the Turkish Embassy.'
Good to see the two countries working closely together.

Just had a text from my friend who lives in
Icmeler and she says 3000 Libyan refugess have arrived in
Marmaris some of them now in Icmeler.
Just wondering how that will affect the availability of holiday accommodation (we haven't booked yet) etc. as they will have to be accommodated.
Looks like we're staying at the sister-in-law's in Bodrum again .........

L'Etoile seems to be accommodating many of them. I should imagine only on a short term basis though.
02 Mar 2011 22:05
Will they be getting all inclusive !!
02 Mar 2011 22:38
good that
icmeler is giving them somewhere to stay and giving them food
but unfortunately there isnt enough room for them all especially when the tourists start increasing ie the brits

They are not Libyan refugees, why would Lybians be taken from their home country.
They are Pakistan and Thai refugees rescued from Lybia by the Turkish government.
There must have been 20 or 30 of them in the 3 Bells last night enjoying the hospitality of the owner who gave them free drinks while they relaxed with the local English people

I think the topic headline made people think it was Libyans not Turkish citizens

I am so glad that i booked with
ICR for this year as i know my apartment will be secured and not let to others as has happened to Gene in the past.

We live in rural South Wales and the jets have already been flying low overhead at night time. They often fly low during the day as training (so low that they frighten the children and animals), but are only allowed to fly low at night when the pilots are preparing to be sent to another country. The last time they flew at night was before going into Iraq, so it looks as if they're preparing for the worst. Hope things can be resolved before getting any worse.

Don't quite understand why someone going on holiday to enjoy themselves should be helped, but someone who is doing a job of work shouldn't be helped because they're well paid. Good luck to anyone who is able to get a well paid job and I think as this country seems to be in a mess I think a lot more will do this if they get the opportunity especially as the alternative may be unemployment. These people even though they are well paid, they are selling a part of their life as they are far away from their families and especially if they have children they are missing out on chunks of their children's lives. I know it is their choice to go but each person working there leaves a family behind if not children, a mother, a father etc who will grieve if they are murdered.
The working person may be there by choice (financially there may not be a choice) but the person on holiday is definitely there by choice. Any person whose life is in danger should be helped.

i think everyone is equal
it doesnt really matter if they are in libya due to work or pleasure it is our job as a country to get our people out and protect them
we dont want to lose any of our people as everyone has families and i wouldnt wish that pain and suffering on anyone
