We would willingly sign and know others that would :D

Re: canal stalls

Is it not a bit late, the action has already been carried out ? and you will need a few thousand names which I hasten to add will take a long time. Look at the noise polution petition, it's been up almost a year and still only has 856 names on it.

Just being realistic here guys, things change, places change, and sometimes,,,, there out of our control.

Also remember this has been a decision made by a court, so a petition would be useless, the only way to reverse it would be to hire a solicitor and take it to appeal, this will be very expensive,

Also the complaints about the canal stalls were made by tourists themselves who were staying in the local hotels.
So its not the courts or mayor to blame but people like ourselves who visit this beautifull resort.
But I do admit that they will be a huge loss to Icmeler.

People visiting places like Turkey, Marocco etc, know that hassling goes on. It is a way of life for these people, so surely, if people know this and don't want this, they shouldn't go. Find a country that this practise does not take place in. This is the way I feel, as the tourists who have complained about the hassling along the canal have spoilt things for the majority of tourists who visit Icmeler and who love and enjoy it.

I have just spoke to someone in Icmeler too late they have gone :( :(

Re: canal stalls

Very sad. I think that is part of the charm of Icmeler, the stalls along the canal selling all sorts - and NO hassle. We love our evening walk up and down each side. I have been going to Icmeler for around 13 years now and have NEVER got bored with walking up and down the canal. We will have to see. Barbara x

Just been told that the hotels down there don't want anything put there , not even bars, how boring and dull will that look.

I asked Zaza but he never replied  so we will need Ramikins to verfy this when he returns next week

Re: canal stalls

I think that the best way to show our support to the stall holders is to make our evening walk go to where ever they place the new location.
This may lead us to areas and bars we have never seen or been to before,I know Icmeler is not that big but we do seem to find bits we have not been to each year.
I remember finding the Magic Garden after about 6 visits or so,then when we stated staying in the old village that opened up new walks and bars etc.
SO if we want to keep the traders then we will have to venture to them?

Totally agree with this post. I've been to Icmeler twice 3rd this August. The first time I went the hassle was wierd but it was part of the holiday to me, more of a banter rather than an hassle, and I made good friends with the people out the Barron so those who know them know that hassle don't bother me.

The stalls on the canal were a lovely place to walk off your meal in an evening, and to be honest there was a lot of good gear there, I will miss it big time, but I also think a few bars and restraunts will suffer because of this decision. I'd imagine most of the hotels complaining cater for half board or all inc, so no worry to them. A very big shame.

Totally agree. each year we say we will try new places and then end up at all the usual ones. Only problem we can see with that is that at least half a dozen of the people we talked to on the stalls said they were looking, or got, shops around the town, so dont think a lot of them will be in stalls at the new position. Still will have to wait and see

looks blimmin awful now IMHO

Re: canal stalls

We will also miss the canal stalls....got many a bargain there. However change is inevitable, and we are always intrigued to see the changes each year.

Last year we were told that many of the restaurants had been demolished, but places were re-built....look at Erdem. Still there, and still giving the same great service they always did.

Maybe the stalls wont be near the canal - I for one will still go there, but will also venture further and will probably discover new bars/restaurants, some off the beaten track, who deserve some custom, rather than some of the bigger restaurants along the canal monopolising trade.

By all accounts it is too late for anything to be done now, so let's just look forward to discovering Icmeler all over again.

Just a thought, but do you think that by closeing down all of the canal shops the Council and others may think that the stallholders may now move into the new shops on the harbour.
The underground market has now gone as well, shops bricked up and concrete barriers blocking the entrances according to dinky cath the owner of the Selen Hotel.

Not a bad thought  Gene, it would bring the marina to life, I walked down there last September, deserted and run down. It needs something...............................

That would be a good idea if they dropped the prices for the units, everyone we spoke to said they were really expensive to rent, thats why they were still empty
